I should add that you should at least play on 'tough' difficulty or the AI won't be doing its best. Still, don't expect it to offer much resistance.

I hate to say it but yes, this is not just a problem with the demo. I'm finding that the AI does equally incredibly moronic things in the newest beta (1.1 4B). For example, in my game yesterday the Arceans built only troop transports and no combat vessels at all, allowing me to easily destroy their entire fleet with a few basic fighters. If things like this bothers you (and I fail to see how it could not) I would recommend thinking very care

Of course, like Veblen said, you don't want to run into the tech trading micro-management hell that is the Civiliation games. You know, where you need to trade all your new techs with everyone immediately, because the instant you trade a tech to someone, they turn around and trade it to everyone else if they can. </TABLE

It is frustrating that I need to trade a single tech/ship at a time now though, because they will only pay for one at a time. If you add a second one, it usually won't increase the amount that they give you in return for some reason. You would need to just trade with them again to sell additional techs/ships with them. <br/

1. It's a bug. Restart the campaign and the AI should build weaponry. And yes, the mission is incredibly lame. 4. You need to have defenses on the ship in order for it to receive the bonus. Ships with no defenses receive no bonus. 5. There are certain thresholds in approval ratings where you will get a population growth bonus if you are above the threshold. At 30% approval, your population will diminish. At 75%, you get a 25% bonu

The AI's are quite reluctant to trade with the player. Do they trade equally little in-between?` I've heard the AI's don't discern between the player and other AI's. Is this true, and does it go for trading as well?

Then what about the other races? What is their hidden advantage'? Oh wait! It's that their ships look cool, right?

I'd really like somebody to throw up some numbers they're positive are correct. It's really quite essential knowing whether it's important to keep happiness above a certain level. Are there no break points between 30 and 75%?

Once I start hitting medium or larger hulls do small/tiny become obsolete or are they still a viable choice? What is your general experience? I don't have enough experience with the game to tell but I imagine small/tiny hulls pretty much become redundant.

If I have specialized in beam weapons and am rather far into this tech branch (let's say to phasor weapons) does it pay off switching to a different weapon type if my opponent starts using shields? I would have to go all the way back to missile/gun theory and work my way up from there, meaning I would have to use the inefficient initial weapons such as miniballs. If you are rather far into the game is it viable to start over specializing in

The disadvantage of small hulls is the lack of hitpoints. Ships will go down faster and when they do they'll no longer be adding firepower. After just a few turns those small ships will be doing 28 rather than 32 damage.

The AI detects you constructing starbases close to it's territory and reacts to it so I doubt it would be very difficult to program the AI not to build bases close to you unless it's to provoke you to initiate war.

I agree. Else, it requires too much boring micromanagement.

Here's an idea: Make the AI prioritize other types of victory over diplomatic victory. Make the AI reject alliances if it believes it has a good chance to become the sole victor through for example a technological victory In other words, make the AI more 'human'. I'm sure most of us would prefer being the lone victor rather than share victory with half the galaxy. Like Fluke says: <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgCo
