Ships in orbit

Orbit advantage?

Do ships receive any benefits from being in orbit? I know they repair twice as fast - but is that all? Any combat bonuses?

There really needs to be an advantage if there isn't already because there certainly is a huge disadvantage to having your ships in orbit: The enemy can check your ships out, deriving knowledge you don't want him to have such as what type of weapons you specialize in.

They do that anyway, have you not realised? The advantage is them not invading your planet. Your enemy can do espionage, and often does, they know exactly what ships your using, they evaluate your strategy.

Honestly, if you think they don't, turn the difficulty up. They start to specialise in defending against your weapons (if you're the threat)

There are structures you can build which boost ships in orbit.

Orbital Fleet Manager lets them fight as a fleet and Omega Defense System doubles their hitpoints. I think there are other structures also but those are the only two I've used.

actualy you also get a damage bonus.
its about +1 damage for every weapon on it.
Dont believe me? then why do Defenders (core ships) have 2 attack in orbit.

By placing your armada in empty space the enemy can't see the ships themselves unless they have line of sight.

Interesting! Can anybody confirm this?

The Orbital fleet manager allows your ships in orbit to fight as fleet instead of fighting solo. There's also another buildings that increases the defense stat of your ships by 25%.

A few wonders also give ships in orbit a massive increase in stats. Build them on high PQ planets that you can't afford to lose if possible.

I think the only wonder that gives your ships a "massive" bonus to stats is the omega defense system which doubles their hp. Their's really no reason to keep more than 1 or 2 ships in orbit. I'd rather deploy them and intercept the attackign fleet, rather than let them "knock on my front door."
