I agree: let's fix the problems first and leave things like that for an XP or something. It's also the big things that set a game apart, and AI is a really, really big thing. It won't help to have solar flares if the AI still develops planets without factories...that would be like worrying about pinstripes on a car when the brakes don't work.
Soulcatcher
They are fun ideas, but I wouldn't choose to put them in if it were up to me. For one thing, I don't want my star systems blowing up randomly. If I worked hard to find and develop them, and maybe even bought some of their structures, blowing them up would just be time wasted...and time wasted is a *bad* thing. Also, I've never been a game that ran over 3-4 years...it wouldn't be very realistic to have a bunch of new black holes and supernovas show up in such a short time. Finally, losing star sy
I agree with some of the other posters. Loyalty is not a very useful bonus, and soldiering isn't either because it's easy to get on your own with tech. So you won't be building an optimum race...but maybe that wasn't your intention. And you could easily add pop growth into an insectiod race's profile. As long as you know going in that it won't be the strongest set of talents around, why not do it? It's fun to try new things, make new races, use different bonuses. Also, using weaker b
The combat viewer is frustrating. All the trouble we go to make the great-looking ships, then we barely get to see them except in the ship building/shipyard views. I have to agree with the poster who said the combat viewer may not be worth it. Combat is just a few seconds of random motion and reduced-quality visuals...it doesn't take long before you don't even bother watching it. I have no idea what the solution is, but the "3D engine" aspect has been overstated and over-rated.
I turn pop growth to 30%, Economist politics, usually an econ and research boost, maybe a social prod boost. I no longer use influence boosts because they tend to make winning too easy if you combine them with starbases, resources and embassy-type buildings...the AI doesnt' have much chance then, after you get your econ rolling. Also I stay away from diplomatic advantages in race selection options, because once that tech tree is developed you already have a fairly ridiculo
Just my own comment: I do not think improving the AI should be connected to an expansion pack. In my opinion, a killer AI should continue to be developed and added (for free) to the original program. This is what was advertised for it, and I think it's what we have a right to expect. I do not think players should have to pay extra to get the problems with the AI, listed in many other threads, fixed. Expansion packs should be just that, not an extra fee to get the original game up to snuff
I agree with Tiger8 about the AI doing things which seem to make no sense. It's my only complaint about the game (which I love!). It just doesn't make sense to have, for example, multiple anomolies still around enemy homeworlds after a couple game years have passed...or planets without a factory, etc. It's hard to be competitive if your economy and production is based on planets without factories and economic capitals without a stock market. There is no doubt the game improves constan
Nice shot! But just because I only have one game turned in to metaverse doesn't mean I've only played one game (I've played about 50) and it also doesn't mean this is my first time on a game ranking ladder (that would have been about eight years ago). I've been playing 4x games for about 30 years actually, before there were even pc's, so it's not like I'm some naked rookie that just heard about production and economy, etc. In fact this game is extremely close to Starfall, a game which came out
Just my opinion: the devs have been working their tails to the bone, mostly to try and implement changes WE have asked for. Give them a break. The new patch just came out, and before five minutes had passed there were already people complaining about it or throwing in even more things that they want added. Now, what's your rush? Are you terrified that your ranking might drop below your current #750 for a few days? Will that destroy our self-image and threaten our massive egos? Will people
Alright then: give me your rating and medals, you cheese eating surrender monkey!
I have heard a lot of players talking about using the same strategy themselves with unarmed ships. Also, to criticizes a game's AI while playing only on levels where the AI is crippled is ridiculous. It's crippled at those levels on purpose to help gimps, little kids and newbies be able to enjoy the game even though they suck at it. If you havent even beaten the AI on Tough (which is far from the most difficult level) you shouldn't be complaining about the AI...since you haven't played it yet, l
Something creepy in a game that has lizard/bug/monster aliens trying to enslave all humans? I am shocked to hear this news!
Have you upgraded your ship components since you build the old ship? If so, they've gotten smaller. Why don't you try to construct a ship and see what their size is then?
I have never have thought that the commerce centers helped that much. They do, you just have to research tech and build them a few stages. If you do that and build a couple commerce buildings on your planets (especially if you turn them into banks) you will be rolling in dough before long...but of course, you need population for it to really
the AI turning down the above offer seems insane to me. If it had agreed and you'd have hit "Send", you would seem insane to the AI.
Maybe the AI now knows more about humans--for instance, that nobody will really give them the entire galaxy for one starbase. Realizing that you are just trying to either 1) fake them out with an offer you won't follow through on, or 2) offer them less than their property is worth (and why else would you agree to a trade?). I say they have outsmarted us! And any time an AI is smarter, trickier, more devious than we are...we should be thanking the devs for it, cuz it only makes the game better in
I'm not sure it's an issue. It does make the game harder, but have you ever seen a real society where 90% of the people supported the leader? So in a way it makes things more realistic by putting pressure on you from day one. If you buy or build an entertainment building (or two) early, it will help. I usually take the highest morale bonus too, it's my fave choice.
This is another of those things that doesn't really bother me. If I can't win without having an AI take out my strongest opponents first, it simply means I need to play a better game next time. The point of the game is to get good enough to win on your own, not to just sit back and let the AI win your wars for you then go in and mop up the last remaining opponent for the win. Having said that, I've noticed that allied civs don't always declare war on my opponent when I'm attacked. As allie
I love the patch. So much has been improved and the new version of the AI is much appreciated!
I actually think it's right now. I wouldn't sell a resource node for 47K either. 47K can be earned in a turn or two. Why should the AI sell? The only way the computer can avoid making a bad trade (meaning any trade that costs them a starbase) is to not trade at all. And if it made the trade, people would be complaining about how stupid the AI is (" that stupid AI sold me an econ base for 20K, HAHAHAHA!"). I think it's a sign that the AI's are now smarter. (I've also tried offerring them t
You can't get rid of core ships. Just make them obsolete instead.
Used to be, I could have 60 small ships with 0 defense, 0 attack and even 0 engines I've seen several people talking about this strategy, but to me it doesn't make much sense. For a couple low-level techs and a few production points you could arm them and have an actual navy. Making mass ships of 0/0 just to stack up doesn't seem to be a very g
in GalCiv2 the Dregin act like the Dregin every time. That's kind of the point. Do you also expect the Russians to act like the Chinese sometimes?
If someone does, it won't be me...I already gave you some good advice and got slapped for it.
I play slowly too. My last game, on the largest galaxy with everything abundant, took about 3 1/2 days to complete. I'm not too interested in the smaller maps, I like epics with max opponents.
