Funny how things happen sometimes, I just got back into this game after buying the Ultimate Edition, and was looking to start MV gaming again. While I am sure it will get up again soon, it does seem like it's taking a long time to resolve.
I'm pretty sure Tech is going to have to find a new domain, cyber squatters are a notoriously greedy lot. I hope I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any popular site that lost it's name ever get it back.
A quick thought here; Have any of the previous rounds tried using one initial saved game file for all the people playing on DL and a different one for all the people playing DA? I don't understand if the Metaverse would pop up a cheat flag for that, but if it doesn't it would make for an interesting round. People would be able to compare their strategies in a more "apples to apples" fashion if it could be done.

It is amazing the different routes people take to get exceptional scores, combined with the totally random universes, it is pretty much an endlessly replayable game.
I am a former member of the HCH and a current member of the Galactic Diplomats. Based on my personal experience, I can recommend the Galactic Diplomats, The Tyranny of Evil and the Kzinti Empire as a good place for any player to make new friends and expand his/her enjoyment of playing GalCivII. You can't go wrong with any of them, they are newbie and oldbie friendly

I'm hoping that Stardock offers a combo package of DA and TA for those of us who are still playing DL. I looked at the features offered in DA, and the ones I liked weren't interesting enough to me to buy the expansion. TA is a different story, the specialized tech trees will help people like myself who "immerse" themselves in the race they are playing. My favorite part of MoM was the ability to customize your wizard and race combo's to fit your playing style. That's why I keep playing GalCivII over and over, I can chose or create a race to maximize how I enjoy playing the game. What MoM and MoO both had that I miss, was the randomness of the spells/technologies available to research. The HCH will go down in the "Chronicles of the Metaverse" as an incredible psychology experiment. From my perspective, a new and starry eyed player, Alex Atticus, had the gumption to start a new Empire with almost no experience in the game or the Metaverse universe. What he had was pluck, a "go getters" attitude, and the willingness to ask anyone and everyone to join up. He was polite and enthusiastic and most importantly, persistent. I'm having a great game with these settings! I have never played with blind exploration and stopped midway in a no tech-trading game. These two conditions are forcing me to change my normal strategy... and I LIKE IT! I'm going to take this moment to thank Mumblefratz for his voluminous info/insight/advice to all players of GalCiv2 on strategy for this game. Hi guys! Some of you are familiar with me from the Core, where I have been a member since Jan 2007. I am interested in trying some of the Metaverse League Challenges and would like to get put on a team please. I am still on the current Dread Lords version (no expansion), is this a problem?
Nice Job everybody! Of course it's harder to stay on top than to climb to the top, now that we have a big crosshair painted on our empire.
We need to develop some "power players" in our empire to really hit the next level, the 10,000,000 point mark. The Galactic Diplomats and the Orcas dominate the top 10 players list, while our highest player comes in at number 23. While the breadth of our empire is impressive, we are going to need some bigger scores to reach the next level. I volunteer to try one of those monster games, who else is ready?
The HCH has exhibited the most growth in new members and the greatest amount of new games submitted. There is no doubt that we can eventually climb to the top spot, the real question is; Can we break the 10,000,000 mark on the official Metaverse?
Uh oh! I just started updating through Stardock Central and it couldn't identify my serial number, GalCivII has been moved from a purchased game back to a Demo on the list. When the update is fone, I will try and load up a game to see if anything has happened.

In the game I am currently playing, they have not even researched the 'matrix tech and they are light years ahead in research without a single research anomaly starbase. Their research level (from the timeline graph) is twice mine (and everybody else's) and climbing. I concur that this does seem a little fishy. Also, they are maxing out mass drivers and shields, but are way behind in diplomacy, so it is possible to trade for their weapon techs (I am playing as evil Yor).
