The problem is that it's really hard to tell the die-hard true believers from well-intentioned users, and if you don't fight the die-hards then they might start being able to make their views law (such as it is on the internet :P). I'm all for ending piracy, but not if it comes at the cost of anonymity or freedom.

Shut down the piracy sites. Excellent idea. While we're at it we should shut down all the sites that offend people. Personally I find all religious sites intolerable - those get to go first. No one will object to that, they're offensive! These sites are illegal, so the government should shut them down. No, they're not illegal, and no t
I'm a newbie to Twilight, so when I first tried to start a game with a custom race the 'Tech Tree' dropdown confused me. I opened up Galactopedia, but it's really hard to tell which tech tree would be best of my play-style. I'm assuming that all of the trees have access to the core stuff (economy and cultural planet upgrades, miniaturization, weapons, defences, engines, hulls) at some point, but the factory and research stuff is race-specific. Are there any massive difference
Seconding the extra GBs of RAM and 64-bit Vista, it really does make a difference. Another point that's worth making is that Vista and DX10 are slower than XP and DX9. Might be worth finding out how to run the game in DX9 mode, or switching to XP, just to see what that does for your performance. For the record, I'm running the game in 32-bit XP on 2.2Ghz Core2Duo with 2GB RAM and an NVidia 8600GT, and I run fine at 1280x800 on Medium settings.
There seem to be a number of low-numbered accounts reserved too - no usernames, and no access to anything. Makes sense to keep some 'high' ranking numbers for SD staff :P
That's why I go to Metacritic. At least you get a good number of different reviews there, plus user-generated stuff too.
And feel good knowing they use a fraction of the memory that they did back when they were ugly.
Good to see a dev team with a sense of humor :D
I'm all for large games, but holy crap - Immense might almost be *too* big! I look forward to trying it :D
Mine does this too sometimes, and also with different games. I'm thinking it's crappy hardware - the headphones whine too. It's a Realtek HD audio device, running under XP SP2 and Vista x64.
I can confirm the manual scan - I've got the same things listed, including 'Galactic Miniaturization'. I've had the game since initial release and I don't remember ever seeing it. Therefore, I don't think it ever made it into the game named 'Galactic Shrinker' - more likely the devs renamed it to Hyperion Shrinker before release.
Darn, thanks Kryo. Sorry, my comment really doesn't apply to your issue. But I have to applaud your choice of migration direction because it reinforces my own personal opinion of Vista. Had I installed the 32 bit version I might have stayed, but I needed signed 64bit drivers to mou
I recently switched from Vista to XP, and I kept a copy of the game files from the Vista install (ie, copied the whole GC2 folder onto an external drive, installed XP, and then copied the folder back). Is there a way to get SDC to see the existing install and do its validation thing? I've tried setting the install path for GC2 to C:\Games\, as well as C:\Games\GC2 (with the latter being where the game files are located) but it just doesn't seem to see the files - there's a box labelled 'Instal
So do we lose the Terror Star when we destroy a system? Any shockwave that's strong enough to destroy the planets orbiting the start will most *certainly* flatten a ship/station... What about other ships in the system (say 3 squares from the sun)? Will they be destroyed too?
1 research lab and 20 coordinators--> a) 5 labs worth of research or 1 x (1.25)^20 = 86 labs? Not quite, since you can only build 1 coordination center per planet Both the power plants and coord centers are worth it, but you need to have an existing manufacturing/research base on the planet first. Keep in mind that my numbers here do *not* take
Well I can think of an easy (for the devs, at least) way of doing it: the onboard coordinate system. The game already keeps track of where everything is in a x,y plane, they just need to make that accessible to the screen reading program. Unfortunately, this is the kind of thing that really does need to be done by the developers - we don't have access to that kind of low-level detail. Thinking about it, I somehow doubt you're going to want to try and keep track of a 256x256 grid in
i actually can't remember the last time i saw a dev journal or a reply from any of the devs concerning updates or bugs.....cept Kryo. Has Stardock given up on GalCivII? They no longer care about this site it may seem, or at the very least feel Sins is more of a priority. I very much doubt that. They're probably too busy working on 1.7 and/or on holidays. And it is a weekend currently, so they're probably not at work either <img src="
It not even that bad if it appeared on Joeuser or something, but ideally we wouldn't see *any* of the Joeuser stuff on the galciv forums unless we explicitly clicked into them.
I too would like the non-galciv stuff removed from the galciv pages. Quite frankly, I don't care what the religious nutters think about the way I lead my life, and I'd rather have the 'Recent Threads' list those that actually have something to do with the page they're on.
I frequently see this issue, especially after loading a saved game. I wouldn't worry about it - it doesn't really hurt anything and the Devs probably have better things to do
Your point? If a player wants to push that much into one or two points categories, let them.
I would like that too. All options open to both sides, that way we could really test and see how the battle calculations work (and watch the pretty fireworks!). It would be really cool - I don't usually see large enemy fleets because I don't give them time to assemble I would be surprised if the devs don't already have a basic verison of this done already - they had to test the combat code with
Can't you just set them to none in the galaxy setup screen at the beginning of the game? I always leave them on, but I'm pretty sure you can set them to none.
Sounds excellent, can't wait. Are we going to be able to threaten the AI in 1.7? Properly threaten, not just demand stuff in return for nothing?
I agree, it would be really cool if we could have proper rotating parts and be able to use hulls as jewlery. I'm not sure why they haven't already done this - it's only looks, so it shouldn't matter to the metaverse. Admittedly, it's going to take more memory, but maybe we should have a toggle somewhere that disables the functionality. Whatever, consider the petition signed
Or more difficult if you don't have enough movement points to finish wiping out their defenders :/
