So I had to turn off explosions because they were making the game hang. I'm not sore about it. I'm intentionally using older drivers as per NVidia tech support's advice to make a newer card run under Win 98. I'm just wondering; why make explosion animations so graphic heavy that they surpass C&C Generals or Renegade (or some other action/RTS games I have) in system reqs?

That's true enough, but when it gets to the point where you just sit there and peg away 57+ unarmed ships because the AI won't install it's superior weapons until the end of the year it gets cheesy. It has the ships, it has the weapons, it's just not coded to use them yet and so it keeps churning out blanks for you to shoot down.

It did, but that's ok. Given that it was my post you refer to, I'll explain. Tactics that allow you to gain advantage by exploiting a loophole in the AI, will let you win. But so will cheat codes. It's the same principle. You've found a way to beat the game without really playing by its rules. That is to say, it's allowed in the game, but the game structure can't compensate for it and provide a challenge. It's like rushing with a one point fighter and picking off unar

I actually thought the AoW:SM AI was pretty decent considering the number of varibles involves, as the number of special abilities and units were pretty large. Obviously it cheated like crazy and isn't the equal of GalCiv 2, but wizard spells aside, it's pretty good by genre standards. BTW, I have all three (I lie, I just sold AoW2 on ebay), and I've never beat AoW:SM on the hardest setting, which I assume is against 7 emperors with alliances and pioneers off.

That's because the strategy is deeper than, 'I have 3 lv4 vs your 1lv3 so I win'. The different units have different strategic and tactical abilities which mean you can't (always) just build the most high level units and send them charging in. First off halflings are weak to begin with. They're the finesse/challenge race. Regardless, the leprechaun is a special ops unit, not a tank like the warlord. If you use your invisible, phasing, sabotage units as if they were your high att/

I like the OP's idea. It would be much easier than changing the whole empire's tax rates to grow your new aquisitions.

I remember seeing this awhile ago, but I can't find the thread thanks to the search function only searching titles. Anyway, when you have transports (or sometimes just one) flying around an AI starbase, it meets the conditions of an invasion buildup and makes the AI likely to declare war. I post this as a bug, because the text in the war declaration message suggest that Stardock meant for the transport buildup event only to trigger when near planets, not starbases in anothe

It's monday, so I'm sending this to the top for it to be noticed by stardock

I believe Ascendancy had the features you suggest. I did notice the humanoid trend, but it didn't bug me too much as they were supposed to have been created/influenced by humanoid precursors. I feel it has plenty of atmosphere. the only thing that would make it better is for the cutscenes not to be so horribly choppy.

@Jmccorn There's a forum bug that makes it important to bump posts regardless of other people responding @p22 Yeah, i've got them installed off the disk too.

The PDX is not the serial number. It's the special fancy stuff number. The long one is the serial, but its hard to type in correctly. Keep trying, and don't confuse letters with numbers.

@Heroine4Life: The forum bug which neccesitates bumping has been explained to you before. Stop ragging on people about it. On topic: I don't think the summary/detail options give all that information. I think they give most of it though.

did that. But maybe I'll do it again, just to make sure everything's there.

The entitlement mentality will get you nowhere. They owe you nothing. You did not pay for a service, you paid for a license. The fact that Stardock continues updating the game and providing a Metaverse is wonderful, but it should not be treated like something they owe you. After they provided you the software w/license, they finished their part of the transaction. Thus the proper attitute is not a demanding one.

They exist. I've seen the first two second of one. It started to zoom in on the temple the Drengin were using to unleash the Dread Lords, and then froze. Since then I've been unable to get that or any other cutscene. (plus there's an old thread where the devs say they do exist)
