If you want to keep busy for a while I recommend the Battletech Series. By now it should be well over 50 books, describing a whole Univers populated by Humans and fighting with 100-ton metal warriors. Other good military include the Legion of the Damned Series by Dietz and Steven L. kents Clone series, which I'm currently reading.

Hi Guys, that post just got me interested. I've never heard about that game. I've just read a couple of reviews and looked at some screenshots. To cut a long story short, I just ordered it online. I love the internet [e digicons]:borg:[/e]

How about the ability to conquer enemy planets intact? I mean when you capture a planet all improvements are destroyed for which you don't have the right technology. For the super adapters this shouldn't matter, they should be able to make some use of the buildings anyway.

I think this is great news. Last year I bought 2 games, Supreme Commander and Galactic Civilizations. Now that they are in the same shop, the future is looking bright for me  I hope more companies realize that this is a much better way to go to create a happy bond with your customer and change their thinking that we're all pirates.

I give this game at least a couple of years before uninstalling, and even then the discs will be kept in good order on my shelf. This game is right up there with Alpha Centauri and Heroes of Might and Magic III. Quality never ages :CONGRAT:
I had this same problem on my Vista machine. If you are also running Vista, restart SDC running the application as an administrator. This can be done by right clicking on SDC and choosing the option "Run as Administrator". I think that SDC used to run as an administrator by default and as far as I can tell it changed in the last version that was released.
thanks mindlar, that really did the trick.

I downloaded the update this morning on my laptop, no problem. When I tried to update my desktop this afternoon I got the same looping effect. It hits 100% and then just keeps going. I stopped it twice at 2500%... It just keeps downloading the Twilight.Exe_ Any ideas what could be the problem?

I'm sure somebody suggested something right after the game came out but I cannot find the post anymore. One thing that has been bothering me all the time is the way ships are upgraded. I don't understand, why the only way to upgrade my ship is to have it in space and pay horrendous amounts of money. Why can't I sent it to one of my planets with a starport and instead of building a new ship there, my old ship could be retrofitted? I know this would mean a lot more micromanagement, but t

Thanks for the update. Good thing I didn't spend too much time on my new game last night, since I will start brand new with the update to check how the change in maintenance affects my game.

Congratulations Wyndstar, as usual an inspiring and entertaining read. It's people like you and your stories, that keep me always coming back to this game to try things differently. Most games get pretty boring after you figured out the mechanics, but this game is so complex that even after that you still have dozens of ways to go about your business. Just wonderful. Keep it up :CONGRAT:

Hi, Uranium you're absolutely right, a new way of presenting all that information would help a lot. I've been playing around a lot with the immense galaxies in the betas, and about halfway through it's just too much to read and I just click it away, which sometimes causes me to miss something important. I also hate the Tech Discovery Robot ;p

In my opinion it's one of the most powerful special abilities in the entire game. It gives you a lot of control picking the enemy's fleets apart in your territory. If you enhance the chokepoints with military starbases and the warp modules you can decrease the enemy speed to 1, making them basically sitting ducks. Has saved me a couple of times... feels a little like stargate, trapping the replicators in a time capsule while you upgrade everything :HOT:

Great stuff guys. Just downloaded the latest beta, can't wait to get home to try out my new robot killing machines. Galaxy beware, I'm coming. Thanks for fixing the tourism effects, and also great idea about the jewels in the ship editor. Will make shipbuilding even more addictive. Any chance we still might get that external ship editor? Maybe in a third expansion pack?

I pre-ordered the game on the day it was announced. Take all the time you need to finish it, but keep supplying us with betas so we can help you guys test the cool new features. However, for Christmas morning I would like to have a terror star

For people who want to turn of their computer and do something else, I advice to try Robo Rally. Great little game in which you have to create simple 5-Operation programs for your robot to send him across a factory floor to reach various checkpoints. The fun part is, that you don't know what your opponents are doing and once your robot is on its way, you cannot change the program. Add to that some dangers on the floor and strap a laser to each robot and you have loads of fun <img src="http://im

Awesome ending man. I was a little confused before your last post, but then I read the other again and noticed the italics. Very cool indeed, nice finishing touch. Put me down for an order of your first printed novel, signed if possible If we have any say in this, I would like to read a story about the influence victory... with some Drengin in it <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/sm

Nice Job, very amusing read. I'd love to read your take on the super warrior. And I'll give the super Diplomat a shot myself, very different from my usual games, but sounds like fun. Hope to read more of your stories in the near future.

Every time I read one of those threads I'm amazed at how much work you guys put into your game. I wish other developers would take you as role model for a job nicely done. With me you have a new customer for life

Keep in mind that this slowdown effect only takes place if the enemy ship starts its turn in your area of influence. If the AI ever gets smart enough to build really fast ships, they can counter that effect and just start their trips on your border. The slowdown effect is especially nasty if you combine it with a military star base and the module 'Warp Field inhibitor', which then effectively reduces enemy speed to 1.

Hi Wyndstar, thanks for your great post, it's always a pleasure to get insight into the strategies of the pros, gives me pointers how to improve my own game. I have two questions concerning the giving-planet-flipping-back: 1) Doesn't it flip of the AI when you do that (alarming influence and such)? 2) Why do you remove the population before giving away the planet? Is it easier to flip an almost uninhabited planet or just to not give the AI additional tax payers? I use t
