Thank you both for your help. I do not really understand how bugs of this scale may be possible in a game of this quality, but with these workarounds I think we can live with them temporarily
This is somewhat of a mystery even for me. Patch after patch is released, hundreds of hundreds of issues is improved/resolved. But certain game-breaking issues remains (witch would not be diffitult

Thanks, I´ll check that out. Actually Thalans have better beams than I do ( they have Laser IV while I have Kinetic streasm II, but OK... in both cases the max damage caused by each weapon individualy is 1) So because I obviousy have a greater number (even if weak) guns, I can penetrate thalans shields. While thalans cannot penetrate my ARMOR since they have simply too few guns? Is this correct?
Please explain. I still do not understand. I have played this game for a long time and still do not understand how fleet battles work. This is the situation My (Yor) Fleet: 1 Heavy fighter, 4 cruisers (fleet 154hp) Attack: 37 beam, 0 missile, 0 mass driver. Defense: 5 beam, 5 missile, 61 mass driver. Thalans fleet: 1 damaged heavy fighter, 3 cuisers, 1 battleship (fleet 151 hp) A
Here is a few somewhat gamebreaking issues that are still not solved as of in TOA 2.02, though they have been brought to the table back in the summer already. Issue 1. After playing for a while, Weapons technology suddenly increase in cost by a factor of 3.38. Isssue discussed here: https://forums.galciv2.com/311639 To exemplify (playing as the Iconians) Mass Driver Theory cost in r
The Kyrnn victory count started going down by 2 per turn as I expected.
When I myself tried to mine ascension crystals, I observed the opposite. First it was som 900+ turns left to victory... then at the very moment I built a starbase on a second ascension crystal, the turn-indicator dropped to half... to about 450... but continued to drop at a rate of only 1/turn. I suppose this is the way it should work actually, as the number seems to measure turns, not a
I have only noticed the tech increase problem in Gigantic or larger games

Had it in a Large game.
And I had this problem in a medium game. I suspect is has nothing do not with galaxy size.
If some one were to kill one of your family memberd or rape them or harm them in a similar way would you want to see that person dead. Please be honest. Personally i would hunt the SOB down and kill him/her or see him/her hang.
I would NOT like to see that person dead. The reason is that death for someone who has comited such a crime, is in fact an not a punishment but an ESCAPE! Been locked up for the duration of a limetime in prison is MUCH MUCH worse. Ano
I´m also playing my first TA-game right now. Me too are playing with Altarians and I have noticed the same pattern regarding strangely increasing cost of technology. I become absolutely sure this phenomena existed after I realised that a certain weapon tech (I think it was some of the laser-tech) first would have to take only 2-3 turns to research. And then suddenly when I tried to learn it later, by witch time I produced much more research, that version of the laser-tech would now take 7 t

are no ships with any movem Actually I think it turns green also if you "space" through ships witch has movement points left.
When I played the Drath, it seemed to cost less money to bribe other races into war with each other. I suppose that is what the skill does.
The Gold Edition is worth every penny.
-God sends "vibes" through the entire galaxy randomizing the ethical alignment of all races. -A giant space "wave" blows up all current ships in existence in the entire galaxy. -An extremealy toxic particle-cloud is traveling throgh a certain part of the galaxy turning all habitable planets in a given area into toxic ones. -Some greater power turns the entire galaxy "upside down" resulting in that in the diplomacy screen, the leaders of the foreign races are shown ups
It indeed was a very nice and entertaining story. One should remember, though, that this blog is only based on analyzes and conclusions based on what the blogger personally believed was what the A.I was doing. There is no other fact pointing toward what the blogger was reporting. I myself do not agree with the conclusions regarding the A.I. My experience based on MANY games played is that the lack of invading is just plain moronic behavior and nothing else. (please,
And regardless of how many times I read the posts that it deletes the prior file before attempting to save, I still try a manual save after the auto save fails..... Yes, I have now noticed this also. Not only do the saving fail, but the previous one also magically disapears! This whole thing actually seems to be much more severe than I thought at first.
I have managed to steal some techs. My observations is that 1) You have to have reached "medium" level of inteligence toward that race for stealing to be possible at all. 2) Having better levels than medium does not seem to inrease stealing possibility. This is my observations but still just speculation of course. Only the devs knows for sure how the tech-stealing concept works and they do not really seem to be willing to share this information with us no mat
This still is related to the Beta 4, right? I do not remember running out of memory prior to this patch not even when playing in large galaxies with my old computer (witch was an Amd Athon 1400+ with only a mere 512mb of memory + Radeon 8500 LE 64mb)
I have had a few instances when, after playing for a few hours, the game first gets strangely unstabele, then suddenly exits to desktop with a "out of memory"-message. The DA-tab then remains active and must be closed using TaskManager. TaskManager also revelas that available Physical memory is down to some 160megs only (out of 2 gigs), all of witch is immediately fred up when force-quiting DA. My desktop also get messed up by this so I have to restart my computer to get thing
Actually I have several times had a galaxy were almost all random races has been evil. (witch is somewhat okay as that still guarantees some action) but this was the first time I had a galaxy whitout any evil races att all. I abandoned the game btw.. there simply was no point in continuing. It seemed to be impossible to get a diplomatic victory since it was not possible to get Iconians relations to get "close" since they supposedly "knew what I was doing" witch was a bit funny
I decided to start a new game. Medium map with me (Terran) + 4 random civilizations. The 4 random races appeared to be Torian, Iconian, Krynn & Drath. Torian, Iconian & Drath ganged up against the Krynn very early and that gave me enough time to research Xeno Ethics and make the switch to the Good alignment also. With Krynn beeing wiped out of existence beeing the only non-good race, there now is 4 "good" races in the game and nothing else. As problable everyone can g
Exploiting a bug is cheese! Anyways, the devs claim this bug is fixed in the 1.6 betas but some believe it is still there. It´s hard not to exploit when the bug screws up the whole defense system. You´d have to compleatly leave out defense from your ships to avoid exlpoiting this bug. My experince playing with 1.6 beta 1 is that this bug was NOT fixed
I have played the game a couple of time now and been defeated by space-based attacks. I have researched weapons and drives but don't seem to be able to make strong enough ships. The latest weapons don't fit the ship and the fastest drives also don't fit. The other races easily defeat me as my spaceships don't have any real power. How do I make KILLER ships! Thanks for your time, DK <IMG id=ImageResize_Image_1 src="http://images.stardock.com/g
Civ IV have the same CIV II "feel" witch CIV III lacked. CIV III was actually a quite modest and simple little game witch offered very little variety or depth. In CIV IV matters are entirely different. Entirely and fully. If you enjoyed CIV II then you will probably be most pleased with CIV IV. You will have tons of options in how to deal with your empire and theese options are actually all valid and working! (compared to CIV III were you in fact had nothing beneath
2. Israel has one of the most formidable nuclear arsenals on the planet and has never used them, despite extreme provocation. Do you honestly think that Iran and bin Laden would be able to show such restraint? Would you really, truly, feel more comfortable and secure if these nuts had the nukes instead of the USA and Israel? No, Israel is of course not beeing provocated as her neighbours knows Israels military is powerful enough
That was supposedly resolved in Beta 1. Yes, but that was not the case. Just a while ago I finished a game with beta 1 installed were I as the Altarians plowed through the universe with just a few cruisers armed only with two mark II lasers each + alot of defense. They just kept on winning, as nothing could break the defense and harm them. I fought 3 wars (having only some 5 or 6 of theese cruisers) and only once did one of my ships
