It would indeed be nice to be able to get the game with retail box in Europe. When giving away the game as a birthday present for instance, then the classic retail box is a better choice than a downloadable copy from the internet I think.

Any of the thousands of rapists and murderers out there are more dangerous than President Busch. Entirely untrue. Bush holds the power to kill millions of millions of people and have used this power as well. Do you really believe, that because you are not holding the sword yourself, you are somehow in fact not guilty? So far mr Bush is responsible for possible tens or hundreds of thousands of lives in wars he fights in order to secure oil and
28. I think the avarage age of TBS-players is generaly higher than for many other types of games.
I pretty much disagree with everything ToS says. Yes - those categories debatebly have some issues - but most are not noticable to the casual player Perhaps, but the defense-bug alone unfortunately already is enough to make the game more or less unplayable
o, usually low end stuff, occasionally one with a biggie, and on rare occasions with a couple biggies. But then again, they're IMO specials should be uncommon perhaps, not rare. The point and the core of the problem, however, is that when you play game after game after game after game and repeat this 50-times and still do not find any specials anywere in any universe, then it is like a whole aspect and dimension of the game is locked out of re
There actually is an entire thread about this phenomena. Actually, you are quite lucky that you have even found any planets at all having specials. Some people have not had any specials at all in any game after the installation of the first patch to DL even after extensive playing. Some others only ever have specials on their starting world etc.. Others report that they see specials occassionally but far less often than earlier. As for me, in most of my games,
And keep in mind that if you don't take those planets, some AI race will. AI never takes class 1 planets. They are available throughout the game for the human player to colonize. With the current terraforming-system in place, AI:s should pursue class 1 planets more agressively and even give them priority over class 4-6 planets, I think.
are they even worth colonizing? They are due to the fact that low class planets can most of the time be terraformed much more than planets with a higher starting class. For instance a class 1 planet may end up beeing a class 16 planet after you have researched all terraforming techgnologies. A planet starting at class 7 on the other hand, will never be terraformed into anything better than a class 10. There has been some debate regard
You could try Rise of nations. Though it is a RTS-game, it have a certain TBS feel. I think the game even was designed with that in mind that also some TBS-fans also could find the game enjoyable. Play it with the slowest possible speed and paus the game everytime you actually DO make decissions etc. In fact, RON and its expansion is the only RTS I have ever truly enjoyed playing.
Y? Are you sure? The latest version is 1.50X.072, which will display as 1.50x3 in-game. Strange. People seem to have different versions around. Stardock Central tells me I have version 1.59.078 and the update day accordning to the central is April 4, 2007. I´m still not sure what is in this 1.59.078 build as I do not seem to find infomartion about it anywere.. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Hmm.gif" bo
I still do not understand, though, how terraforming a Class 1 planet can make it a class 15- 18 planet while terraforming a Class 9 planet only ends up beeing a 12. And also why does this "superhypermega" terraforming only work on those plants you colonize yourself and not on those low-class palents you have conquered (conventionally or culturally) who will stay as horrible planets forever as they do not get terraformed as well at all. Overall, I think the worst planets in the gam
I don't get that industrial capital strategy? The colony rush is over before you get the tech?? It depends witch race you play as. I always go for this strategy if I play as the Thalans. Once you got 4-5 factories + industirla capital in place, your planet will pump out colonyships in 3 turns and since you have been reseraching ImpulseDrive while building factories, you will not only have a swarm of colony ships, you will also have ve
Thanks. So that means I have to reach maximum espionage level toward any given race in order for it to even be possible to get techs from that race by stealing. That, in fact, makes it appealing to spy on a race until you actually reach maximum level (Advanced?). I mostly only have spied until "Medium" (to get acess to the stats) and then switched to spy on another race.
Hey Drengin While you´r at it, maybe you also know how the tech-stealing concept works? I understand spies has something to do with it but exactly how it works is to me a mystery. I once did steal Missle weapons Theory (hooray!) and Aquatic world colonization from the same race on consequent turns but other than that, I have never managed to steal anything. Not even when picking species with spying-bonuses. I assume it is a certain percentage of possibility that a
In fact a class 1 planet is far superior to a, say, class 8 planet. This is because a low level planet benefits much more of the planet imroving techs. Habitat imrpovement typically only frees up 1 tile on a class 8 planet while it frees up to 4 tiles on a class 1 planet. In the end, after all the terraforing techs have been researched, a class 8 planet has turned into a class 11 planet while the class 1 planet may well have turned into a class 13 planet. This of course
Also, I have noted that during my last 5 games or so, I have also not had any planet colonization events at all. (or any other alignment-determining event either) I´m starting to wonder if theese two things are related somehow? Then a bit more whining about about the planets .. maybe this is a bit off-topic... But overall I would like to see planets beeing even more unique. Not only more different kind of surfaces but more like truly unique planets. The new conce
Right! This time around not even my homeworld had any specials. Not to mention the other planets witch of course also do not have any specials. This is just getting worse all the time. It´s very repetitive and boring to colonize planets whitout any specials anywere. I just want to once more serioursly point this out. I would be very happy if wer could get some kind of confirmation that this bug indeed will be fixed as soon as possible.
All my DA games so far have been on large maps with anomalies/asteroid=abundant, and everything else common. In all but one game, I had 80%+ of the galaxy by the end and had no more then 3 bonus tiles. None higher then 100%. I just figured that was one of the changes with DA. If they're still supposed to be as frequent as DL, then I'd say it's a bug. KHSM is the only mod I'm running. It most certainly must be a bug. While I did not really play GC II bef
I really love the new planet restrictions and I would i fact see the concept be taken even deeper. For instance planets sould also sometimes have combined levels of restrictions (for instance beeing both radioactive and heavy gravity etc..) and that the level of the problem could vary using a greater scope instead of always just be either "on" or "off". There should be shades inbetween. For instance a mild degree of heavy gravity should bring less penalty than a very, very he

I apologize if this has been brought up before, but it just seems liek all the AI's always use missles, which makes it easier insomuch that you only have to really research one defense. Do they become more varying on harder levels maybe? This is not my experience. In my current game for instance every A.I:s have put mass drivers on their ships except for the Drengings who use Missiles. I think, however, that A.I tend to learn toward missiles o
I had quite a bit of specials prior to the patch. After the patch - none (exept on my homeworld) witch is boring.
Speaking of tech-stealing, I have to date never seen it happen. Is disabling tech-trading also preventing tech-stealing perhaps?
Now that I think of it, I really have had many favorites throughout the years. So I think my 7 biggest favorites of all time would be: (in order of appearance) 1) Civilization 2) Star Control II 3) Colonization 4) Master of Orion II 5) Heroes of Might and Magic III 6) Rise of Nations 7) Civilization IV The orginal GalCiv was good but not good enough to make it to my all time favorite-list. GC II on the other hand seems great with the o
So I started a new game of DA and began exploring the galaxy. I imported some custom race logos into my game and as I explored I noticed a colony with that logo that I'd just uncovered. "Funny," I thought. "I haven't colonized there yet." I clicked on the planet and lo and behold, the name of the race that owned the planet was the same as the custom race of that name I'd just created! Not only that but they were using the same race logo I'd picked for them in my last g
