Well, if you send your own scout ship out, the auto-explore or auto-survey will deactivate once it has nothing left to explore. It too will just sit there from then on unless you set the auto-pilot or destroy it.

I very seldom lose a starbase that is fully loaded up, until late in the game when there are some pretty hefty battleships in the fleets. If the ships are not in a fleet, only one ship at a time can fire. And it gets fired back on by the starbase. If in a fleet, the fleet fires then the starbase fires. But my starbases usually win.

Try search Microsoft.com for the Windows Script download. Never mind, here is the link. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en

I don't consider you a troll, dystopic. And I was rather out of line generalizing it as "psychological problems". As you have pointed out, some are not psychological problems, but physiological differences.

Well, me too, and me too. In the meantime, though... The bases are not really needed except when you go out that far. Another option for destroyed bases is to include a constructor in a fleet going that way. When it reaches its limit, drop off the constructor. Or, send a fleet of constructors so the base can be protected from the outset.

And don't forget the effects of anomolies found and planetary bonuses from the ethical random events. I have seen 18% starship bonuses several times.

Alt-Tab works too. How did you 'set the game so that you could minimize it'?

Well, at least the new server seems snappier. I agree that there could be better search functions, but the general layout of the site is cool. I like the fact that Stardock didn't go with a canned option. Everything being to generic is rather boring. My biggest complaint has been the server response times, and hopefully that won't be an issue anymore with this new server.

There are only two possible genders, psychological problems aside.

It is usually much faster to move the ships next to one of their planets and then give it to them. I have seen some serious lag time if they have to go to your planet to retrieve the ship. Sometimes I think they send the pilot on the slowest freighter they have.

Not cheap for me. I was charged for upgrading all of them in my last game. I am on 1.2b1. And what is the big deal about sending out a constructor for increased range? If you know that is how the game works, why not just work with it? Life is full of little limitations none of us like. If there happens to be an easy workaround, so much the better.

What is the cryptic Microsoft message? That might help track it down. And the gpu is not the only high heat producer in there. The cpu could be overheating. This game will max out the cpu and can keep it maxed out for extended periods, depending on what you are doing and how you are playing. I was observing my cpu usage and heat last night during a game. I have a dual core cpu, and it frequently had them both maxed and the temps were right around 68-69C during those times. I have

Not possible, at least right now. It is not something that can be modded in, and it has been discussed in several other threads already.

The easiest way is to modify your raceconfig file in the My Docs\Games\GalCiv2 folder. Notepad works fine for this. You can look in the TechTree.xml file (located in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Data\English) for the correct names of the techs as well as their requirements, if any. (Notepad or Wordpad also work fine for this, too)

There are no exploits in trading. There are simply good and bad traders. If you found a way to make trading more profitable, then you just became a better trader.

That's good news for sure. I can only imagine the bandwidth requirements for this site alone. Will the site be off line during the move? And if so, how long do you expect it to take?

22 Replies 9,668 Views

Well, I guess it didn't change anything after all. The site is snail slow right now. Some pages never finish loading, others can take several minutes, and a few load in seconds.

No, you're right about the 20% research, not min. Sorry, I was up all night, couldn't get to sleep, and must have just had a brain hickup.

Well, I did some experimenting. I had a ship that, with all the miniaturization techs (but no shrinker) and a 400% ability in my raceconfig file, came to 270/270. (I am also a Technologist, which adds 20%) A ratio of 1. Removing Ultimate and Supreme yielded 248/249 - so a bit better. A ratio of .995. Going below the 400% ability things got progressively worse - 160% was a ratio of 1.45 (176/121) Below 160% the ship did not even show up in the shipyard.<b

I don't mind the layout of the site at all. It has been on the slow side from time to time. Funny thing. I was using PCCillin antivirus for a while. I have used it on and off since 1998 or so. Someone mentioned that it was not the best, so when the trial ended this time and the time came to purchase it I looked at some reviews on PC World's site. BitDefender got the top scores, so I bought it. Just today, as a matter of fact. The funny part is that this site in particular s
