The problem with "collecting the peace dividend", I've found, is that sooner or later, the AI will try to squeeze you for money because you have a substandard military due to the insane maintenance costs (40bc for a Thalan Corvette?). Eventually, they will stop taking your rejections and simply rush you with swarms of defenders and frigates. Then you are left scrambling for ships.

This may seem like a dumb question, but how do you get Econ treaties with more than one civ? I've only ever been able to get one civ to agree to an Econ treaty with me.
I've noticed the same issue with Nightmare Torpedoes...no graphics for that, either. I have not yet researched Black Hole Gun, or whatever it's called, so I'm not sure if there is a graphic for that. But with Nightmare Torpedo, there is a sound effect with no corresponding graphic. At least, not on my machine.
A-men to #3, brotha! Who is Jack Thompson? I don't game nearly enough to get that joke. Regarding #4, why can't games ever have both? I'm a big Homeworld 2 fan for that reason...good graphics and (for me) it is fun to play. Anyway, that's just my four half-pence worth. :D
TA, in its pre-release version, is already better than a vast majority of release-version games on the market, so I would have no problem waiting a little longer for Stardock to really finish it off properly. What's another gaming award between friends, anyway? ;)
Anyone have this issue? I was playing a TA game on challenging, and everything was fine. I got the event that one of my disgruntled workers shot the leader of the Drengins and now the Drengins have declared war on me and received a zillion of those dime a dozen ships from an unnamed source. Anyway, during the course of the game, I noticed that while the Drengin ships can be viewed as icons when you zoom out of the main map, as soon as you zoom in to watch a battle or something, their ships be
If they make longer-life cell phones, there will be no market for them to make extra money on extended-life batteries. Have you seen how much some of those things cost???
Hey, Kryo. I already had that box checked, and it's still downloading even now. I've left it running since my original post, and it's STILL downloading 092[b]004 over and over. I've disabled my antivirus/firewall software and this is still going on. The download manager reads, "Downloading gc2_Twilight.sdc".
Hi. Just bought the beta, but it seems like it's taking too long to download. It downloads, but then begins to download again once it is finished. It just seems to keep starting over. Are there that many files, or is there an issue with downloading through SDC?
We've waited this long, what's a little longer? I think a later release would be better, as it not only would allow for more preview coverage and AI enhancement, but can also allow for more overall QC (not that that is a problem, but more is always better). As an accountant, I can assure you that it's always the little things that get ya. If anyone was wondering, by the way, QC = Quality Control
Actually, I think a nice change would be the addition of starbases to the colony management screen. Just a list showing what starbases I have, and if they are mining a resource, what kind. Also, what the highest level of mining technology the starbase is using, or the highest level of enhancement built onto the starbase so far.
MORE PLANET BONUS TILES.
Why does this version of the beta still not show up on my stardock central? And yes, I have the box for pre release versions checked.
Spies came in handy for me at the end of a game. I was in a race for the technology victory with the Altarians. We were pretty much neck and neck, but then I put a couple of spies on some of their larger research facilities, and was able to pull ahead and get the win. I've found that they are more useful at slowing down your opponents rather than actually stealing info from them.
More planet bonus tiles. In about 30 games, I've found 3 bonus tiles that weren't on my home planet. Isn't one of the purposes of space exploration to find exotic resources that can augment your civilization?
Protection for the mining bases would be nice. Maybe a branch on the tech tree called "Mining Defense" or something like that? It would be nice if they weren't just sitting ducks.
I can't believe I never asked this before, but how do I tell which of my planets is the most influential? Which data indicator is it?
Ok, every game I've played I've mined out asteroids as high as possible. However, I cannot tangibly tell what, if any difference mining them makes. So, can someone tell me what the actual mathematical/statistical advantage is for asteroid mining? Also, it seems to me that planet bonus tiles are still severely reduced from DL, especially on the "specialty" worlds (aquatic, heavy gravity, etc.). Comments, anyone?
Anyone remember Starship Tycoon (Starlines, Inc.) or Moon Tycoon (Luna)? I always enjoyed these games, and found the basic concept appealing, but thought they were very lacking in content. Anyone know of any similar types of games but with more robust features? Gal Civ is kind of close, but still a bit different.
I was about 20 minutes into a new game on DA, when the following message appeared (and stayed) on my screen: XX.X (Shader) where X was a number that flucutated as the screens changed around. The only effect it had on game play was that the monitor would momentarily go black during transition to a new info screen.
Probably because he has a job!
I had a case where the Drengins were at war with the humans. The Drengins had a few ships stationed near one of my mining areas. After about 10 turns, the Drengins blew up 2 of my mining bases, then went about their business with the humans! I suppose it could have been provoked by the fact that I kept sticking agents onto their worlds, but there was never a declaration of war, and nothing happened after that.
I've been playing the game for a few hours now, and one thing I noticed is that after researching Xeno Ethics and choosing Neutral, the ethics avatar remained the evil one. It did not switch back to the neutral one like it does in Dread Lords.
After colonizing about 20 planets or so, the last available planet to colonize finally had 1 manufacturing bonus.
Yup...started a couple more games to see what would happen and only the home planet had bonus tiles. I think we've found our first bug!
