woops Just updated to beta 2. About to start a game :/
Daemon Jax
At this point, I have a pack of technology that no one has, and no one has any techs I don't have. Odd for not researching or threatening that much. Thoughts? All my games seem to end up that way. It's like they give up on researching tech for about 100 turns or so.
Even in 1.1? You shoudl share your secrets. I can no longer beat the AI on Genius level anymore. I suspect that there are specific techniques that work in specific galaxy configurations. I saw no noticable AI changes from 1.0X to 1.1beta. If anything, the game is easier, due to social production not being such a sinkhole.
There's virtually no difference (in terms of efficiency) between Research Bonus and Military Production Bonus for any playstyle that includes atleast modest levels of both researching and manufacturing. Right now, 50% Military Production > 20% Research bonus, hands down (same number of points).
I think the problem is between the chair and keyboard.
Good ideas.
Isn't the game boring as all hell without tech trading? I mean... it's the only thing stopping me from blindly hitting end turn until either A) my tech finishes researching, B) my ship(s) get to their destination, or C) my ship gets built. Atleast with tech trading it gives me something to do. If I don't stay ontop of the AI's technological achievements, then I miss out on an opportunity to make some cash. So that means I need to check what techs they have very frequently.
Miniaturization tech does let you fit more onto the ships. Not so hard. There's better things to complain about than the miniaturization mechanics.
It doesn't need to be of the right type. Which is overpowered imo.
On Suicidal, trading starbases and ships to AIs for BC or tech is pointless because they place no value on these items. Conversely, they place too high a value on their own ships if you want to trade for them.
Daemon Jax: Describe how you use Military Star bases Use Tiny hulled ships with a single point in offense and a single point in defense. Use atleast 9 constructors to build a military starbase that gives offensive and defensive bonuses to your fleets, and make sure that the area of effect includes the planets you want to take. Have your troo
9 opponents on Suicidal gave me 38000 BC in my coffers by the time I mopped up the last one -- all by trading tech on 1.1beta. You won't run into any issues later in the game
I thought the Dawn of War AI was really good at the highest level... but it may have been cheating. Starbases are overpowered, take them out of the game and the AI will be a lot more challenging.
I'm not so sure that any bonuses transfer when the item is traded away, only if you build them yourself.
Meh. I've found that the only thing they look at is your military strength. They don't care that your research or economy is horrible. If you you have the #1 military (just build bunch of tiny hulled ships with 1 point of offense) then you're golden. Your strategy seems good, just outproduce military ships and you can attack when you choose. Use military starbases to your advantage, and you'll wonder why it's so easy.
How was the ship customized? Being able to reproduce the bug would help stardock fix it.
I don't know how you guys do it, but for me, trading for the AI's ships and starbases is a super inneficient strategy. They place way too high a value on it, even when I have Jedi level diplomacy. But I'm not complaining, just curous exactly how you guys are getting these supposed 'deals' for their starbases.
Silly rabbit, trading tech with the AI isn't an exploit.
Though now that I know how to use it the game is painfuly easy hehe \ I was able to beat the AI on Suicidal before I used military starbases. But now that I do, it's simply way too easy. I think military starbases need to be seriously nerfed (or the AI used them to the same effect). I don't even bot
What size map and what difficulty? I recently played a medium sized map... so... having 3 planets was better than average in my game against 9 opponents, so I didn't really have an option to over expand. Theorycrafting, I think it's still better to grab worlds, even with a population of 1, since it's still better than the AI having them. Make them research or production worlds (whichever you have more bonuses in).
All good tips. Also, try to use starbases to your advantage -- particularly military starbases. They are very powerful, and can turn your piddly fleet of Tiny hull ships from 0/0/6 offense and 0/0/6 defense into raging 18/18/24 offense and 26/26/32 monsters for very little effort on your part (that's just too good imo). I would ignore building trade ships unless you're playing on larger than medium sized map.
This is like week 300, medium game, 9 AIs, Suicidal. Hit End turn, game crashes to CTD. My only savegame is from 2 turns earler :/ sux Debug Message: Version v1.1 BETA-1 last updated on: Fri Mar 24 19:54:46 2006 Debug Message: Could not find a TGN Serial No. Debug Message: *********DXDiag info follows.********* System Info Time: 3/26/2006, 09:22:59 DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
In multiplayer I would roll over your planets so fast you wouldn't know what hit yah with low poplations like you have. Sure, just let me know how to play mulitplayer and we'll just see! Oh yeah, there's isn't any... darn... well, until then, you'll just
First game I played I set my custom race's color to dark blue. Couldn't see anything correctly, as they blended into the background. The other thing I can recommend is check your brightness/contrast settings in the game.
Send a constructor over the the starbase. Stabase modules require additional constructors.
