You can't simply copy the GalCiv2 program files because it won't include the proper registry keys. I assume if you archive and restore using Stardock Central's commands, it will properly install the program with said registry entries. A little bit of computer knowledge goes a long way towards trouble-free gaming. -HM

Choose File - Archive Application from Stardock Central to back up the game. Transfer to a CDs or a DVD. Install Stardock Central on your laptop and use File - Restore Archive to restore the game. -HM
For those who may have missed it. -HM
Ah yes, you probably entered the serial number improperly when you first installed, but got it right when you entered it in the web page. I actually did the same thing myself: I apparently typed it improperly on the install screens, but redid it within Stardock Central since it complained my serial was invalid, and then the patch downloaded fine. Since I keep a text file of all my games' serial numbers, I was actually able to compare what I originall
No. The Bonus Pack does not contain the CE-only extra jewelry or the GalCiv Windows theme. -HM
So if any of you haven't plunked down the cash yet to get it, this will probably be the best opportunity (at least for the immediate future). "Share and Enjoy!" -HM
But apparently you do have to activate the product in order to use the official patches, even if downloaded from galciv2.com. Take a look at the link Peace Phoenix gave, which shows you how to activate GalCiv2 by sending information to [email protected]. -HM
You can't download the Collector's Edition content from Stardock Central - only the patches/bonus pack. -HM
Hope you guys didn't think they were going to use NO copy protection: Linky! -HM
It sounds like this is either a computer or web browser issue which is causing the download to abort prematurely. Make sure you have enough room on the hard drive that you are downloading the file to. Also try using a different web browser. -HM

Fritz, Perhaps I'm just k00ky, but it seemed intuitive to me that beta patches are only available via Stardock Central, but the official patches are also available via the GalCiv2 website. I am curious to know exactly what had to be done to solve the problem you had with getting the GalCiv2 website and/or Stardock Central to recognize your serial number. I seem to remember you saying that they fixed your problem (and went on at l
What difference does it make if the Rise of Nations disc you received is legit? It wasn't what you ordered. -HM
Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, I don't think it's such a big deal to give Stardock your email address so you can download the patch. You didn't seem to have any problems giving it to them so you could post on the forums. The beta patch is just that - a beta, designed for their serious fanboys to try out the new features. You are more than welcome to wait for the the next official release, which you be able to download from your web br
The beta release out is newer than the official patched version. It's for those players who want to try out the newest features of the game and are willing to experience some bugs along the way which might hinder performance. -HM
A little bit of helpful information, such as where you purchased the game, what country you purchased it in (if not bought on-line), and what exactly the nature of your error is would be more helpful than spitting out endless amounts of drama punctuated with ridiculous alliteration usage. -HM
Yes, the bonus pack download from the web site includes/is the latest official version of the game. -HM
It always amazes me that the regular consumer can get their PCs to run for any length of time. Do you think any of them ever update the BIOS of their machines? For that matter, I tend to avoid upgrading that (it's just asking for trouble), so I can see why he didn't think of it. And yeah, Starforce. Ack. -HM
Why do you have to speak to "IT guys responsible for the network"? Are you playing this from somewhere that has some sort of firewall and other security installed? If so, I can imagine it playing havoc with the Stardock Central authentication.. -HM
Not US - Europe. -HM
Have they been uploaded to the downloads page? It looks like the Calendar and Weather have, but not the Drive Meter. -HM
I used to be pretty fanatical about keeping my system updated - drivers, BIOS updates for system and peripherals (like CD and DVD-ROM drives) plus patches for all my software. So there was the time I updated video drivers just because they were new, and everything seemed good, then a few months later some game I hadn't played in a while didn't work properly. I kept saying, "What the hell - it worked fine last time I played, and I haven't changed anyt
Brad (and others), Thanks for the reply. It just sounded from that quote that you were really going to force the issue, so I'm happy it won't be that way. Believe me, I understand that us super-hardware nuts are in the minority (ah, I still remember the days in DOS of trying to shove TSRs in high memory with QEMM), so I fully get your frustration regarding people trying to play your games with equipment that's not in any shape to be runnin
I notice that a lot of advice given regarding crashing and other problems in GalCiv2 revolves around "update to the latest video drivers". This is perhaps decent advice in a lot of cases, especially if the video card or driver is really, really old. But what concerns me is forcing folks to update them, which will become a reality according to Brad's Postmortem at Gamasutra: "Next time, the game will have a dialog that will simply not all
Stuff happens man. It wasn't as obvious as these things sometimes are, and I could see making the same mistake (especially if I was all excited to get the game). At some point you simply have to assume that the seller is telling you the truth about their product, and this seller was most certainly being deceptive. -HM
