It does. Friend of mine installed Stardock Central and GalCiv2 last night, I told him to upgrade, but I didn't look closely at the version number before he did it, so he got the beta. I agree that by default Stardock Central should install with that "show beta" checkbox off. -HM

Once they delisted themselves they showed their true colors. If it were me, I'd start complaining to Ebay and Paypal now. Unfortunately there was no explanation from them of what they were selling nor a picture (taken by them) of the product they were selling. Someone else's pictures of the game and the same with description. These two things together would probably make me steer clear. -HM
From Valve's Doug Lombardi over at Computerandvideogames.com: "For us it was really just a set of things that were necessary, things that would make the overall experience of playing (and developing) our games better. Before we began development on Steam, we contacted many other companies to see if anyone had something similar to Steam already in development. We were surprised to find that, while folks were pursuing some of the individua
When exactly did it ask for the serial number during play? It should only ask during installation, and even then, it's optional. Of course if it was when you were trying to download the patch from galciv2.com, or trying to install it via Stardock Central, then yeah, it will complain about not having a valid serial. I'm curious what the URL is of the auction. Did he say in it that it was a new, mint in box version of the game?<br
Ah, so the name is in the beta (I'm not running the beta). I guess I will try clicking "no" for upgrade so I get a chance to fish on the map and figure out where it is. I guess I, like many others have implied here, would like it if the game would move my view to where the starbase is if I say "yes". I've played GalCiv1 a bit, but not a lot, so will have to go back to it and see if the behavior is different (as one of you guys said). Thanks to all for the comments, and de
Does it actually give the name of the Starbase that's about to be upgraded? I don't remember that, but it could be my oversight. -HM
Is there any easy way to tell which Starbase is being upgraded once a Constructor reaches it? Often times I have a few Constructors in play, or, I've been busying myself with something else. So when the dialog pops up asking me if I want the Starbase upgraded, I don't know which one it's talking about. And it doesn't give me stats on that screen, or location, to remind me which one it is. Thanks, -HM
From https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=161&AID=111075 "Our schedule right now is to have another beta this week which should introduce the modding. We will continue to iron out bugs in the beta, tweak balance, and then after that we'll release it as a non-beta. Originally we wanted to get 1.1 "done" by the end of March. But we wanted to have some extra time to tweak and balance things, which in turn add bugs, which in turn have to be fixed. But we're getting pretty close now. Hope
One other small bug I noticed (and no doubt easy to fix): the Drive Meter claims that it's the Calendar in the task bar and in its "About" menu option. So I suspect that the version number listed there (1.5) is the version number of the Calendar, and not the Drive Meter. -HM
Hilarious. Stardock isn't forcing anyone to buy their product on-line from them, and they aren't hiding that stores are charging less. In fact, if you go to their "Purchase" link near the top of the home page, then click the EB Games banner, you'll go directly to their page where it states the price is $39.99. So anyone can take an extra two seconds before they buy from Stardock, right from the comfort of their own chair and PC, and figure out what
Yes, they are definitely cool. The disk one was probing my floppy as well. Is it a version issue? I noticed that the version numbers for them don't match what it says the latest version is on the download page. Keep up the good work, -HM
I've never been a big TBS game junkie, but since friends of mine are, and I'm a regular reader of Blue's News, I was aware of GalCiv1 upon release. When Moo3 didn't fly with my friends, I remember pointing at GalCiv1, because I knew TBS games were rare, and yours was supposed to be pretty decent. Every now and then I'd note something about GalCiv2's development, and I just located an email dated Feb 2005 that I sent to a friend about Stardock. I pointing him at a Gamespy interview w
The Bonus Pack includes: + Additional new visual effects + Several new ship components + New Computer AI levels + A few gameplay tweaks from playing the gold master + Full screen video support for tutorials + 3 new large hulls + 4 new maps + 4 new scenarios + Ability to enter money via keyboard in the diplomacy screen + Smarter tooltips + 15 new race logos for custom races
Download and install Stardock Central. Go to Tools - Lookup Serial Number. Enter your email address that you used to register GalCiv2. Within a few minutes Stardock will email you the serial numbers for all the games you've registered with them. -HM
If the beta requires the internet to activate, and you don't have a connection, simply uninstall the game, then reinstall from the CD. You don't even have to enter your serial number or need a connection to the 'net to play the CD version. -HM
I do have to second the heat issue. I have a Shuttle SFF PC (SN41G2) with an NVIDIA 6800GT card, and used to overclock it to Ultra speeds for Doom 3. When HL2 came out, I did the same, but noticed it would crash every so often. After much mucking, I discovered taking off the case would solve the problem. I could also leave the case on and run the video card at normal speeds, and that would work as well. Conclusion: some games tax the hardware big-time, resulting in increased temps
Ah, so you can actually see the ship if you create a new game and research the proper tech? Interesting. -HM
I just started toying around the idea of creating my own ships last night. So I spent ten minutes doing it, saved the design, checked to make sure the design was still there when I went to the builder (it was), then quit the game. Next time I loaded my game, the ship wasn't available. The ship's data files were created and are located in the appropriate place in my WinXP user profile. So I went and designed a brand new ship in the build
Linky! -HM
Correct - you get the bonus content in the 1.0X patch. -HM
