Love the analysis and for the most part I agree with what you say. To answer one question, at this time I believe that all allowing CPU intensive algorithms does is allow the AI to redesign its ships twice as much. Thats no small thing but its not exactly a whole lot of extra depth either. Does anyone know what/if some of the new algorithms will be in the x-pack? Great reveiw man, can't wait to read your veiws on the x-pack and any other patches.

I'll try that. That might have been it, I often fiddle with those controls depending on what game i'm playing.

Yep. Its odd. I've changed it to hardware rendered and back again, disabled my mouse softare, setpoint I believe, and switched around a few other things. I'm going to just go ahead and uninstall and re-install. Shouldn't take too long... And yes I had the newest version.

Bump to appear. Did they change that so you don't need to bump it? O well.

Hey yeah just started up another game, first one in the new patch and I've noticed one thing. While creating new ships I can't seem to use my right mouse button anymore to rotate around the ship. And I do remember being able to do that in 1.2, I think... Now i've looked through the settings and I don't see anything there, but I may have missed it. Is this a deliberate change, a setting, or a bug? Either way I find it extremely annoying and it triples or quadruples the

Yeah the "hardcoded" abilities aren't really nice to mess with. And if you do it would be nice if you could restore it by just removing whatever you allocated there. Never noticed it before but the techs you start out with for the various races do tend to be, well some are more helpful at the beginning than others. Its nice that they have this flavor, but I can't really see a way around it except making all the races start with the same, or smaller pool of techs. Yes you could give the

Nowhere does it say the unit sizes are the same. In fact if you go and look the weapons and other items you attach to the hulls change in size for each hull yet each weapon takes up more? space. Take it however you want. Personally I would like carriers but to have them extend range, like starbases do. So you could have in essence a mobile starbase for range purposes. In a huge galaxy that could have many benefits.

Playing with the dread lords on isn't so great, they end up curtailing intersteller travel in the AI's so it seems that only I colonize worlds and when on of the AI's does conquer a Dreadlords world (which happens occassionally-frequently) they get a huge tech advantage (if they're lucky and don't get a low lvl tech)

Why are you all debating the real life consequences/possibilities of a dyson sphere? This game is not real life, a dyson sphere would be nothing more than a game mechanic and could be appropriately changed and scaled. If you want to get into impossibilies how do the hyperdrives work? Negative matter? Rare and extremely difficult (I would say just as difficult as building a dyson sphere) to accumulate enough to use. Wormholes? Certain things in games are fudged over, and "if' they included a dyso

Yeah personally I favor an RPG somewhere in the line of Baldars Gate or Fallout, something with branching sidequests and an ability to really customize your hero(s). Personally I could go for either a fantasy or sci-fi game, as long as its good. I dunno, a fantasy 4x there are already plenty of games with a similar structure, and the big thing that made Galciv2 take off (the ship customizability) would be much harder to implement. I guess they could have a make your own monster thing.

No way. If it was cheaper and didn't interfere with the development of other things then I would say yes. As it is multiplayer in a turn based game is the most borring useless peice there is.

I always set my military slider to 0%, especially at the beginning where I buy colony ships so that I can pump them out really quickly. My research bar is also almost always around 50%, if I need to upgrade my infrastructure i'll go all social for 3 turns or so.

Yeah the modability will be added in 1.2, currently they have the basic framework in though to mod almost everything.

You know what, I don't think the OP realizes that the economy sliders control percentages rather than numbers or how color mixing works. Its either that, he was saying something in such a weird way that I don't get what hes trying to say, or he randomly threw words together and they somehow formed a semi-coherent idea.

They could just change how they determine it. Instead make them explore the nearest unexplored area instead of flying halfway across the galaxy to explore a small unexplored sector.
