I sat here with a stopwatch earlier. Gigantic map, all 9 civs plus dread lords. 45 seconds per turn. AMD Athlon XP, 1.99 GHz, 1 gig RAM, Geforce fx 5700 Then I started playing the campaign for the first time. It starts on a tiny map and good god what a difference in speed.

That was his declaration of war.
swi = first 3 letters of my last name.
Supposedly, any warship built on that planet has stronger firepower. I've never paid attention to see if it's true.
It's supposed to be that way. Frogboy explained it a while back but I can't remember where.
If it's just one planet, and it's clearly going to start a chain reaction, you can build a reeducation camp on it before giving it back. That will put an end to it flipping. If it's more than one, then I don't know. Maybe build them an influence base around their planets and trade the base to them is all I can think of.
I think that whoever designed the core ships assumed everybody was going to rush to the larger hulls as quickly as possible. They all have relatively low-tech weapons and defenses. The battleship has phasors and barriers if I remember right, which is pretty low tech (for me) by the time I get as far as large hulls.
I think the best compromise would have been, the attacker gets automatic full strength attack rolls with a first strike and normal random rolls in every other round of the fight. So, if your attacking ships have attack strength of 10, they automatically attack with that strength on the first firing round. Still not the overwhelming advantage it is now, but it doesn't make it unrealistic. He who shoots first generally wins in the real world. This change strikes me as being nothing mor
*phew* Thank you. Hate that bug.
"Pyrrhic" victory: http:// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrrhic_victory I like to build balanced ships. I like seeing a frigate shoot down every missile fired at it. But it really is too damn expensive to build that sort of ship if you get in the middle of an ugly war. I took a good, long look at the components in the ship designer because of this thread. I never paid attention to how much a component cost. I only paid attention to how much room it took up. If it was going to cos
My suggestion for your current game.... You playing on rare planets or something? 4 planets for the whole empire sounds like you're losing the war, not winning it. Figure out which of your planets is producing the most. On every other planet, bulldoze the factories and replace them with stock exchanges. If you're that far ahead, you only need one planet producing ships. Find your enemy's largest planet (PQ) and invade it. Trash whatever they've built and fill it with stock
That's not going to work on tough or higher. One or the other (or both) will declare war before you've even finished colonizing. They _hate_ evil civs. H A T E. The neutral civs will ally with you, but definitely not the good ones. The best you can do with them is frighten them into submission with a larger military. And no civ is going to let you build a military base near their world. They assume you're going to attack and they'll preempt you.
i can't get it off the starbase without sending pop with it. Reduce the amount to 1.
(Repeating a few things) All alignments: - Harmony Crystals trade good. Pretty good morale boost. EVIL: - All upgrades to a starbase, which normally costs money, are free. - Free invasion tactics when you build "no mercy invasion" project. - Collect a small toll from alien freighters passing through your area of influence. - Mind control thing, which I didn't realize boosted economy (never built it). - Hugely powerful weapon techs
I've never seen it either. I asked Cari about this once and she looked. It's there, it's enabled, but *extremely* rare. Maybe with abundant everything settings it'll turn up.
After having ranted in another thread about what *isn't* cheese, I think I have to agree that this one is. Staking claim on a planet with an empty ship? No, that's silly. A planet simply shouldn't colonize if the ship doesn't have at least 1 person on it. If you do this with a ship that starts off as a colony ship, well............ If I see an alien colony ship heading for a high PQ planet that I'm going for, I'll do a quick upgrade to give it more engines. Probably cheese, but I do i
Yes it will. And a fleet with a dreadnought, a few frigates and several fighers will do even better. Why do you think the pirates do it? Because it works.
Same with certain armors. You'll see the difference in size on larger hulls, where the newer tech is somewhat smaller. On fighters, it doesn't really matter.
I think a lot of the things that people complain about as being "cheese" are pretty ridiculous. A lot of it I'd be doing anyway, whether the AI was up to countering it or not. Not my fault if the AI does some things badly. For instance: So you are saying that the fact that the AI only redisigns and build ships once per year is not exploitable? <
I offered a sacrifice to the Stardock gods every day to FIX THE MOTHER%^@$* AUTOFOCUS!!!!!! Looks like it worked. Good thing too, because I was running out of goats........ I'm waiting for this patch with all the urgency of a drunk standing in a long line to the restroom. Gonna start hopping on one leg pretty soon......... :-x
Advanced Hulls - gets you a couple more small/tiny hull designs. Lets you build the "Xinathium Hull Plating" trade good, which slightly increases the hit points of all ships you own (except cargo hulls). Medium Scale Building - Frigates and Cruisers. Cruisers are for planetary defense only. Frigates are for fleets. Superior Hulls - Does nothing. There just to give a lengthy pause between building frigates and building battleships. Large Scale Building - Battlec
http :// galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Cheats_and_keyboard_shortcuts (forum breaks hyphenated links) Those are the cheat codes. Print them out. I've used trainers for other games (GTA) and those cheat codes are easier to use than any of those trainers were.
Has anyone noticed this or has just been pure luck in these last few games. Pure luck. All it means is that your only warning that a war has started is that the background music changes and a suspicious number of Drengin troop transports are moving into your area. Experienced it and had a dev confirm it.
Build entertainment centers as soon as possible. Buy one on Earth the first or second turn and morale goes to 100%. You can jack up taxes immediately without morale problems and raise spending without going into debt.
