As a side note... is it possible to steal unique techs? Anyone know? Yep. I've stolen Arnorian battle armor and psionic shredder from the Dread Lords before. And the Arceans traded Neutral Shipping and Balanced Vision to me before, after I'd traded xeno ethics to them.

Except in a game that dragged on and on, I've never seen the AI bother with ethics, unless I traded it to them. Which is exactly how I discovered the NLC in the first place (I took a neutral civ's planet that had one). I still think NLC should require a higher level of research facility before you get to it. Everyone else stops at discovery sphere, you get an extra step beyond that once you research it. I mean I can research up to it before the colony rush is over with, crank up soci
I kind of hate making this post, because I feel like I'm shooting myself in the foot. I think maybe the Neutrality Learning Center ought to have Invention Matrix or Discovery Sphere as a prerequisite, instead of Research Academy. It is better than a Discovery Sphere for research and you can get to it much, MUCH faster than you could ever get to DS. I've played a number of a games since the NLC was added, started building a bunch of them and not only have I won all of them,
Then get up to Discovery Sphere so you can get the Omega Research Facility. Oh god, THANK YOU. I couldn't for the life of me remember what you needed to get that. What you overlook is just how much earlier you
When you build a starbase around a planet, the attacker just flies in from the other side of the planet, and you can't hit him, because a starbase is not mobile. Sounds to me like you're building them in the wrong place. Their area of influence should cover the planet, then the mobilization modules will give assistance to any ships defending f
You can demand tribute, but only from civs where your relations are at "Neutral" or worse. If your relations are "Warm" or better, it comes across as a polite request for some supplies. Kinda irritating when I'm demanding the Drengin stop beating on the Drath, only to have them act like I asked for $20 to go to the movies. : o
Me too. I have a volume knob on my speakers, so I just turn it halfway down until I can get to the volume slider. The same goes for the background nebula. I turn it nearly all the way off because I can't see anything against it. Every so often, it comes back and I have to restart the game to get rid of it again.
I used to go straight down the missile tree until I got to photon torps, then switch to beam theory and catch up quick later on. Then 1.1 beta 4 came out and the Dread Lords started using the high end defenses on their ships (and I discovered this by getting shredded). So that forced me into mass drivers and I made a beeline straight to Nano Ripper. I barely use anything else now, until I get to disruptors. I always have a huge economy, so I can afford it. What I'm startin
It happens when an evil race invades a planet. I've seen it in every version from 1.0 through all the 1.1 betas. I've never seen it with good or neutral invaders.
I don't personally want to go back to being imperial. I research the interstellar governments as soon as I'm able. I just don't want the AI becoming democratic, at least not without researching it themselves or trading for it.
Version 1.1 UP Issue --> All civs must operate as a democracy through %year%. After %year% + 1, everyone is still a democracy instead of reverting back to imperial.
On planets with empty tiles for which you have no projects at the moment, build money makers. ie, Stock Market, Trade Center, whatever. Just fill every empty tile with a money maker and replace them with different improvements as needed. Your money problems should go away permanently.
You get Nano Rippers along with Singularity Driver IV. It is INSANELY overpowered compared to other weapons of that generation. Also expensive. Have any of you tried aligning Neutral since 1.1 beta 4 or later? They added something new called "Neutrality Learning Center", which is a research center that puts out more research production than even a Discovery Sphere, long before you could ever research up to that. I think it's actually overpowered, just like the Nano Ripper.
Every time I think I have this figured out, it throws me a new curve. I've read over and over that the AI attacks escorts before capital ships, and that it decides which is the escort based on attack vs defense. Something screwy just happened and I don't know if I got something wrong, if the game got it wrong or if I've just gone insane.. I built a frigate with 12 attack / 6 defense. 2 to 1 ratio Then I built a heavy fighter that was supposed to be its escort, with 6 at
Well this a first. An obnoxious prick of a forum troll that actually answers the question first. See something new every day. Thanks for the answer troll.
I wouldn't want that personally. It's annoying enough having to deal with that slider when you have 100 trillion credits to work with. Look at it funny and your offer goes up a few trillion credits. On the other hand, how about I initiate the trade, but then they do the haggling. Like... I want a certain tech they have, and they tell me what they want in exchange for handing it over. Or I offer a trade good/tech and they tell me what they'd pay for it. Just like when they initiate th
Easy, yes. Convenient, no. By the time I get that far, I have 20+ planets colonized and building things and I have to go to every single one of them and manually upgrade. There are so many things to click that I wear out my wrist. Having it do that without all the babysitting would be a lot less painful (literally).
I'm trying to create a custom scenario where weapon/defense techs cut off at a certain level. I know *something* is supposed to go right here: [TECHNOLOGY] Starting=0 Restricted=0 I'm just not sure what. : )
Yeah. Just research up the sensor tree to the last one, then build eyes of the universe. It'll give you far more sensor range than you could usefully install on any ship (except a dedicated scout).
Can plz someone give me an historical example The British offered to merge France/Great Britain into one empire just before France surrendered to Germany, to keep them in the fight. Not *exactly* what you meant, but it's the closest thing I can think of.
For the most part, don't tangle with pirates. Unless they're right on top of your planets or on a major trading route, it's best to leave them alone. If you do have to take them on.... You basically have to custom design a fleet (or two or three) specifically created to take on that pirate fleet. If they have missile weapons and shielding, design ships with heavy point defense and nano rippers (or better). When they spawn - They will have weapons,
Same game, 4 dozen or so turns later Link Something is wrong with the function that does the attack/defense roll. That was a battleship, with two nanorippers and enough ultimate invulnerability shielding that you wouldn't be able to see the thing, much less shoot at it. The shielding was at 112, plus whatever hit points a battleship has. If you expect me to s
Alright dammit. In beta 4 and 4A, I'm noticing A LOT more of this kind of crap. Link That's TWO nano rippers and superior force fields. Yes, I realize that two doom rays aren't going to pay much attention to a forcefield, but that DL fighter had no defenses. TWO nano rippers ought to at least SCRATCH THE DAMN PAINT. I'm playing on "Normal", "Dread Lords on Parade". <br
Ohhhhhhh........ So the higher that number is, the more influence someone else has over my planet? Thanks.
Is it deliberate that the "edit" button seems to do absolutely nothing? It must make for a very large, unwieldy and unneccesarily expensive database for people to give up editing posts and make new ones. You Stardock guys might want to fix that.
