I don't think it does get anything extra at tough. On tough, it's supposed to be exactly equal and the AI does its level best to kick your ass. I think the "cheating" starts at one level above tough and they start to get an artificial boost to their economy.

I created a custom scenario and flipped MinorColonize=0 and MinorInvade=0 to "1" and never saw anything much happen. I have seen them invade other planets before, but I've never seen them colonize. In fact, I once watched the Dark Yor conquer about 6 Fundamentalist planets.

How about when you tell the ship to patrol, you move the mouse away from it and a range circle (or box) appears. When you've decided how far it should patrol, you click and that sets the range. Then the ship will continually prowl inside that area. I like Saguinius's idea too.

I'm not so sure about that. I built it on my economic capital (no room anywhere else) and I got a big boost to an already large research production. It was the only research building on that planet.

What's annoying about it is that it tends to do that between me and the race with the closest relations in the game, the one I'm building battle fleets for so they can fight off a Drengin invasion. Why not do that with the evil races that I don't mind whacking? Also, it spawns those stupid little mass driver fighters right on top of every starbase I haven't gotten round to arming yet.

Twice I've built an influence base and installed every module trying to flip a planet. The first time was a lost cause, because they just went and built a reeducation camp. But both times, my influence all over the galaxy went crazy and planets starting flipping over to me like dominoes. I don't think it does really matter where you put it, as long as you install a bunch of modules.

Rangers aren't all that useful anyway. The weapons are ok, but the armor stinks. Plus it doesn't have any extra engines, so it moves at the base speed of whoever owns it. Even with hyperwarp researched, it's only going to move at 4 per turn. Or 5 if that race has gravity accelerators.

I saw this in all the 1.1 betas and in the final. Didn't realize the feature was there in 1.0 (if it was). When you set a planet to launch all new ships at a rally point, every now and then they will launch the ship but not tell it where to go. Then the game focuses it and you have to give it orders. Seems to happen more often when a tech is finished and the research window pops up.

>>>> Needs the ability to set targetting priorities for combat. I thought that was a bug too at first. What's going on is that the smaller ships are escorting the larger ships, the same way destroyers escort aircraft carriers. If you want to take a whack at their battleships, you have to beat your way past anything escorting it first. >>>> Economy fluctuates for unknown reasons. Either you've started building or upgrading something or your trade ships are moving

I don't use starbases anymore for offense, but when I did, I would park a few fleets of very fast constructors away from the battle area just in case that happened. If they take out the base, quick build a new one and counterattack.

doesn't everyone name their ultimate ships omega at some point? I name my meanest ship "Devastator Class Dreadnought". Or actually "SD" instead, since I can't fit "dreadnought" while naming it. Or "%name% Ultra Fighter" instead of "%name% Heavy Fighter". Defense isn't all that useful at the low end, unless the enemy's attack strength

I don't build farms on any agriculture bonus tiles. Ever. Even with an approval bonus, it seems like I need three VR centers per each advanced farm built on a bonus to keep people happy. I can NEVER keep people happy if I build on a 300% bonus. Strangely, I can build two seperate farms on normal tiles and need only three approval buildings total.

Fixed in 1.1. There's a new game option that lets you keep functional components when upgrading ships, so you can swap out parts without redesigning it from scratch.

When aligned as neutral, planets given to me by the UP (volcanic activity) begin to enhance what otherwise would have been yellow, orange or red tiles if I hadn't aligned neutral. Shouldn't they be available already, without the enhancement?

Hey come on. All those stories about products killing 20% of a planet's population are just baseless slander! .... from the survivors..........

I've never seen this mentioned before anywhere and it seems like a bug a to me. When a ship on autoexplore reaches the very edge of the map, it goes off autoexplore and becomes focused. Pressing W again doesn't help. I have to tell it to go to another unexplored area and tell it to autoexplore again once it's there. I think getting to the very edge of the map confuses it or something. I've seen it in 1.0 and 1.1.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. What's more annoying is when it does work, but the AI doesn't seem to realize what's going on and keeps trying to attack it. The camera jerks to it every time they try and eventually their fleet follows it right to your home world.

Pirates can be very nasty. But they usually don't move very far from where they spawn. So if they spawn out in the middle of nowhere, they'll never bother anybody.

I think definitely the NLC, followed by stock market. Every tile I'm not using at the moment gets a stock market until I need it for something else. And then I can just BUY whatever I'm replacing it with. I don't bother with defense buildings either usually, with a couple of exceptions. I'll build a spin control center on my economic capital and park some battleships there. If my manufacturing capital is on a high quality planet and I can afford to replace a factory, I might build a

You should align as evil, or play as the Drengin or Korx and watch what happens. The Torians and the Altarians always go after you and the damn Torians do NOT screw around when they launch an invasion. MASSIVE...... fleets of troop ships. And they escort them now in 1.1. So no more running around with an armed cargo hull popping helpless transports. So it doesn't really matter if they hit you right away or declare war first several turns ahead of the attack. When the Torians come afte
