I have had this same problem, running XP home, usually happens when I click and hold the map to drag it around, and if I get to close to the left edge, then it locks into a contimous scroll to the left, and the only way out is to save, and reload. And I do not have a duel core machine.

I get an error every time I download the hieghtmaps also. Have since they came out. I just delete the heightmaps from my computer first, then update with the newest version, and have had no problems downloading. Is a pain to have to find and delete the heightmaps each time, but that is what I have done to fix the download hanging.
Cari, Runiing a Gforce GFX 5500 and with the beta 6, it selects mixed vp mode. Has been running good for me, instead of 3 fps, I get 10 to 14, with the same zoom and ships. No background stars, but nebula are present. Makes playing the game even more fun now. Thanks
A great journal, and a good insight into why I enjoy playing your game so much. Now dealing with the angry public who thinks just because they have some machine, that they should have NO problems with any game, is just naive. Dealing with the public day in and day out in the service industry, a pattern emerged on the angry customer who thinks the loud obnoxious attitude gets the results they want. Most of the angry customers are setting in a dead end job, one they really did
CTD that happen after hours of play time is usually related to heat of the electronics causing a weak transistor to fail. about a meg at a clip, until getting up to over 2000 MB's before capping off I meant to say back to 1700 or so. Used to be over 2000 when I was running with 3GB of RAM, but I've since removed one gig because it was actually two 512k sticks instead of a one gig stick (plus I wasn't comfor
Cari, Just a quick test of mixed verses Hardwarevp, with the 5500 I get better frame rates with hardware, and I do get the background nebali and no background stars....while with mixed, just a blank background.
Thanks Cari Also.... I tried the hardware vp trick, and went from 3 fps to 15 with a nvidea 5500. I wonder why the card tries to use software instead of hardware?
My First Crash to desktop happened last night after about 3 hours of play. I am using beta 4. Evil, Frist wife, three kids, 5 grandkids, divorced now for 16 years.... Second wife, married, honeymoon, died in a car wreck 28 days after we were married. I do not consider myself a widower, as we did not have that much time together. I consider myself divorced. But if you want to knit pick go ahead...for it is your right to be vocal about all your problems, while many of us have not had the problems you have. And if your researched the forums, most of the Isolated problems w
Evil, My wife died in a car crash. The company has worked with you, and your demands over and over, yet you still scream loudly and often. As for the direction Stardock should take, forget about the turn 0 feature. Spend the time on the AI improvements, and a little less micro management for the human. Now back to my game on my stable computer that runs the game just fine. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 align="absmidd
Evil, I use all the advance features, sure it takes time to play a game, but I am in NO hurry to complete each game. I get to drink my coffee and contemplate my next move, kinda like chess As I said, you are very vocal about your problems with the game, and all your crashes. Again, new machine, new problems, hardware incompatibilities, one bad transistor, and crash. I have read everything you hav
Well I am a geezer, 48, divorced, 3 kids, 5 grandkids I play when I want, a great stress relief. My first computer was the Sinclair 1000...also known as Timex 80 with 2 kilobyes of memory. I have pla
The developers never said it would be a trivial task to fix the turn 0 feature. This has been part of the program from the beginning, and any programmer can tell you, this could take an entire rewrite of a major section of the game to change. It is a trivial matter to me...anyone who only plays less than 10 turns at a time, is basically cheating, unleveling the playing feild against the ai. I would rather see the AI improved, the defense bug/feature fixed, and more mega events that tot
Some people will cry no matter how perfect a game is, as it does not do something the way they want it to So the AI gets a little extra production with EVERY reload of the game, basically a turn 0, before I play and move. If you as a person are not smart enough to counter this, then you should not be playing the game. I play games that run on for weeks, with reloads from saves, the AI g
Performance is a big issue... I have bought many games, to leave them setting on the shelf, because they are unplayable on my Old computer. I also will not buy another game from that company again. So they made one sale to me, but I will not be a repeat customer. There loss, not mine.
It seems that when the peacekeepers arrive, that any ship that is not in its own sphere of influence is targeted...this is all ships, including freighters, starbases. Even if you bring your ships home, they have violated anothers space, and therefore must be destroyed. So if you have a ship that was out of your territory when the peacekeepers arrive, they will hunt it down and destroy it, even if they have to destroy an entire fleet to get that one ship. The peacekeepers rule with an ir
I got the jagged knife event in the middle of a galatic war!!!! Me as the Alterians, The drath, and the Terrans as allies, against the Yor, the Korx, and the Dregin, with the Krynn just about destroyed. Everyone lost planets, and I lost 20 out of 70 planets. I was playing at challenging, large universe, abundent stars, common planets. This made for a very interesting game, as I went for planets that my troops could reach, regardless of whom used to own them. And the AI did too! Sure r
You start the game on your computer, then do not click on start new game, but click on metaverse game...then go and play your game... Have fun
Trade with another race early, makes an alliance with them much more likely. I run my frieghters from multipule planets, to their HIGH population planets, and their capital. Then I build a econ starbase at the edge of our border, that encompesses as many trade routes as I can.
Build an economy starbase near a cluster of planets and begin reducing the cost of your buildings, research, and military. Everytime you upgrade the starbase, you decreese the money spent on running your empire. I have read up on starbase modules and have yet to find any that reduce the cost of anything. They just give a production bonus in %, or to your trade income. What am I missing here?
your economy depends a lot more on population and what you have built and are building, than if you have devoted a planet to stock markets. You have to balance your building growth, with your population growth, the positions of your planets, and starbases, and how big of a military you have. EVERYTHING has a maintenance cost that has to be paid. Build an economy starbase near a cluster of planets and begin reducing the cost of your buildings, research, and military. Everytime you upgrad
I keep my taxes at the point where my moral is above 70%, so that my population grows quickly, yet I have income coming in. I NEVER rush buy a starport. I will rush buy a basic factory, and then build a market center, then build a starport, if that planet is going to get one. It is a long time before anyone can invade your planets, so they don't have to be defended. There is a big difference in growth of your population also between 500 or 1000 colonists. Ferrying population off your ho
Until you start the game, yes the political party will change when you click on another race, until you ACTUALLY select which political party you will be playing as...and THEN start the game. Until that point, your political party is NOT set. So simple to understand. You as a player have NO control over what the predefined AI races pick or do. It is not a bug, it just shows that it is you that does not understand how the game works, and that you have never played a new game???? then wha
Diplomacy is the art of war, without firing the first shot. Diplomacy only works when backed up by a big stick. I always read these threads about the AI not doing what the player expects and wants the AI to do, and then laugh. The AI does things in this game that A human would do to you, Not as devious as a human would do, but just as unexpected. Turn the intensive processing on for the AI, and really watch the AI match skills with you, and counter your ships, and nock out your
Class 6-9 planets form the backbone of an empire...don't overlook them...They have bonus tiles, and by mid game they are class 12 planets, if you research the terraforming techs. It is not about luck, but about using the resources one finds to their advantage.
