2 bugs

1) My military starbase has +4 defense to ships but the ships don't get any defense bonus. Why not?

2) I researched technology victory and nothing happened.

I feel your pain, and would like to add a bud to your list, it would be nice if everyone could consolidate the known bugs in this post of yours so the manufacturer would have a simple list to go by. One of the bugs I have noticed is during the creation phase of a "New Game" in DA. When I am at the screen where you select your race, to the right of the "Super Ability" box is one that says you are either a "war party" or "federalist" etc. I find that this designation changes if you click on another race then back to the one you were originally looking at. Then in the next screen, it changes again!

Neither are bugs.

1) Your ships will only get the bonus if they have at least one point of defense in their base stats. If you build ships with all weapons/engines, they don't get the boost.

2) You need to be sure technology victory is enabled when you start the game. For some scenarios, some kinds of victory are automatically disabled. If you want a technology victory, be sure the box for it is checked when you start your next game.

Hastur - also not a bug. On the first screen, the government listed is the one used by that race in the last game. You should ignore political party on this screen, you get to choose your own anyway. It is useful to kind of let you know what the AI will be focusing on if anything.
When you get to the next screen, when you can actually change your political party, it will default to federalist, or the government you last used with this race. When you choose a race, your settings are saved. If you want the government to always default to federalist without choosing on your own, go to the bottom of the screen, load your version of the race in question, and choose to "Delete" the file.

Hope that helps.

ok, so you are saying that I have the final say in what both my party and the party of my opponents is? And I can set this on the next screen? That would be fine but why do you think that in the race selection screen the parties tend to change? This is a bit odd is it not?

You can't choose the party of your opponents for the basic races. The AI will make its own decision on what party it wants when it starts to load the game. In the latest patch they said that the party you set for Custom opponents wouldn't change once you set it. Otherwise, it would be too easy to weaken your enemies by giving them bad parties.

As for changing political parties on the main race selection screen, that should only happen if you actually select a race, and then go back. Just clicking on different races but not choosing any shouldn't have this effect.

For instance, look at the political party on a basic race that you have never personally even selected (or played as). The government style should always stay the same no matter what you click on.

Hope that helps.

That gets me back to my original point, I'm a new player to DA, never played a "new game" before, but it doesn't matter anyway because the game behaves as I described it in my initial post, check it out.

You can now, as of the last patch. The AI will always use whatever government party has been saved with the customrace.xml file.

Until you start the game, yes the political party will change when you click on another race, until you ACTUALLY select which political party you will be playing as...and THEN start the game. Until that point, your political party is NOT set. So simple to understand. You as a player have NO control over what the predefined AI races pick or do.

It is not a bug, it just shows that it is you that does not understand how the game works, and that you have never played a new game???? then what have you been playing?
