If you're playing against the advanced AI routines, they get mighty ticked REAL quick when you build those starbases next to their worlds.

LoL, did you log in from a computer somewhere else other than your own? Because if you don't log out, the browser will stay logged in even after it's been rebooted.
Well for those who didn't buy the game and acquired it through other means, I bet they really want to buy the game now...
Does this only apply when it's in orbit, or is it all the time? I know one of the UP laws can change the attack value of any transport, but AFAIK it's only supposed to be a minimum, and don't know if it affects the defense values or not.
Now that you mention it, I've had a handful of eco starbases near my homeworld for some trade routes built even before establishing a couple of trade routes, and it would seem that it either increases the base value earned, or now it's simply taking into account the bonus when it tells you the average BC per month. Before, on a average sized map, I might only get about 10bc or so even if the trade route went to the other side of the galaxy to a well populated planet. I think they may
When playing with the easier difficulties, I've gotten warnings when having transports parked next to my homeworld because I was upgrading them to a newer version.
It's the 400/420 ones that are pretty old. All of them only support DX7. I would say for $80 you got ripped off even a year ago or two lol. 2 Years ago I had my GF FX 5700 Ultra for about $120 or so, and it was a DX9 card too IIRC. Personally, I would spend the couple extra bucks for a 9600 instead of the 9550, just because it seems they're clocked a bit better overall. They're about $50 or so if you order one online, like from Newegg.
FYI, the Geforce 4 MX cards use the older Geforce 3 architecture, though they're supposed to be optimized a bit, which is the only reason they call it a GF4. That card is way, way old. Might I suggest upgrading, because for like $50 US or so you could get the current budget card and it would still be a lot better. They have both GF6 & 7 series available for about that price. They may not play other current games that are more demanding, but they should work nicely in GC2.
You get charged BC for it, but it doesn't take up any space. Pretty sure that's how it's supposed to work!
They changed around the forum post screens a bit with a different interface, and it absolutely doesn't like Firefox.
I also noticed point #8, where your custom races have +soldiering, logistics, and loyalty even when clicking the Reset button. Also, if you go into those categories and assign a point, then remove it, it removes that free bonus that was there. And if you click on the Reset button again after doing so, it doesn't put those free bonuses back in. I feel it's a bug. Also, please note that for the forums, you can use the HTML code to manually insert line breaks/carriage returns. It's t
In the shipyard screen, if you select a design, then click the upgrade button, it removes all the weapons, defenses, & modules so you can add newer versions or different weapon types. Then, on the map you select a ship and go into it's info screen and click the upgrade button, and it gives you a list of all the different types of ships possible to upgrade it to.
If this happens, first click the "Find" button to make sure you still don't have some active ships left somewhere that still have some movement points left. Only happens if you have the one option enabled to not waste leftover moves from AI moves, etc.
Of all the games I've played, I've never found a ship myself either. I think it's because I've never used the Lucky trait at all.
Either it's the crappy IE browser I was forced to use to make the post, which wasn't properly refreshing the post, or the changes made in the edit truly didn't take effect for a few minutes. Basically I was just trying to insert the line breaks to make it readable.
Hmm, I notice that editing has no effect whatsoever even when trying to add new info....
I was playing a game on the level below Normal difficulty. (Hey, I still am having a hard time getting better.) I had just taken over the Arceans homeworld, and was preparing to take over the secondary planet in the system, and at the end of my turn I get the message that they've discovered a Precursor Corvette (I think. Smallest one, right?) Big deal, right? Boy was I in for a surprise. Suddenly there were 15+ fleets sitting next to that planet I was preparing to take ove
I've noticed that in the 1.2 Beta, that if you obsolete the original freighter (or whatever freighter you created trade routes with, and choose to decommission any current ships of the same design, then the mini-freighter counts as 1 and though you get the decommission payment, it also disbands the trade route itself, which is silly IMHO. Not sure if this was fixed in 1.2 final though.
Also, having a handful of these puppies on your borders set to guard mode means they'll get activated once an enemy comes near.
I love outfitting the cargo hulls with sensors, life support, and engines. They make nice AWACS / EWR systems. Also, they just look so freakin cool because I always stick a lot of sensor dishes & antenna devices on them to make them look cool.

I would like to see carriers as well, but with the way the current combat system and logistics work, I really don't see the benefit. Fighters are extremely small and maneuverable, and that is supposed to be their biggest advantage over capital ships. However, there is no maneuverability stat for ships. Also, there's litlte chance to miss in the current combat system. Damage is mostly decided by defense value, which fighters wouldn't (or shouldn't) have. You would need a rather siz
Well, to stop the constructor rush, perhaps terror stars should be built at a planet's starport. Have them able to move only 1 square per turn or something. I never used them myself in GC1 so I don't remember how they worked then.
I totally agree with everything Frogboy said. I occasionally "try before I buy" some games, and if the copy protection prevents me from even doing that, then I'm not going to chance spending $40-50 on a game that may be half finished, and never get properly fixed in the end. I also wish more companies would distribute their multi-CD wares on single DVD versions as well. Hey, if the UK can do it, why can't we? I think most of that blame goes to the publishers though, becau
