Depends on the map size, and the number of major races you have. The bigger the galaxy and the less number of major races, the more minor you will have.

Can you have two or more freighters on the same trade route? or does that counts as having 2 separate trade route?
Let me explain what he is saying: When you gain any minituraisation research, the size of components can go up. This is because the hull size space increases so even though the component is larger, it fits in a smaller space (cause the hull size is bigger). There's another post somewhere that gives a really good explanation. It's not wrong but it can be confusing.
I think it's great! Other human chorus title screen music include Halo and Deus Ex. Although GalCiv2 is definitely more Opera-ly.
If a race surrenders to someone who, before then, wasnt really doing very well... suddenly that person may become a power in the universe. It keeps the game dynamic. That's what I thought, but it isn't enitirely true. I saved a game people attack the very last planet of the Dregin empire. I
The surrendering thing: The Ally shouldn't except the surrender at all! or it should surrender abck the planet to you. Why risk relationship or war with anyone, especially if it was against an all powerful enemy. Anyway, this surrender things seem to be very random. Sometimes the enemy surrenders to me and sometimes it doesn't, and it doesn't seem to be dependent on whether I was the enemy, or whether I was in a war or not.
it does seem to me that playing good is currently underpowered and there is no added "fun factor" to keep you going with good. I mean, usually, who cares about trade and diplomacy at the end of the game when the final wars are all going anyway? I think you are missing the challenge here. Being evil and going all military is the easy way out.<br
My Tech tree does this with ship designs that I have created but not with core designs. For some reason I can not get the core design ships to become available and I can not tell which technologies (if any) I am missing so I can build them. hmmm... maybe I am wrong then and I was seeing my own designs
Great patch. I assume some buys is fixed in this patch that might not have been mentioned. Some suggestions for the next one that I personally like: More interactivity with the races, especially on the diplomacy screens - things like to 'stop
Don't forget that you can build up the hitpoints of smaller ships from the beginning, so by the time you do get medium/large hulls, those small ships arent so er... small anymore.
lol... I like it just fine too. Or silent with the TV on Anyway, it would be nice if games allowed you to replaced their music with ones we prefer.
Well, it is all up to you what components you want for your ship. If you like to know the core design ones, all you need to do is click on the Research screens and then highlight one of the hull sizes (ie Medium hull). It will then give you a description of the research, and a list of researches needed (that you haven't already got), to get those core design ships. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmid
I agree with SprintSTNYC. I generate from trade as much as I generate from my taxes. I have all my freighters come from 1 planet which is far from everyone else - then I place lots of economy starbases around that planets with full upgrades. Make sure your freighters are equipped with your fastest engines so they can do more trips in a short amount of time. Although I do agree that you should NEVER rely on trade for income, but it
I also like to know whether you get the bonus (I assume you do) if you brought them off another player?
Unfortunately it seems like more companies are going with the internet activation route that Microsoft made so widely popular via Windows XP. I always hated that because you are forcing people to have an internet connection. Although more and more people do have internet connection, I wish they wouldnt relying on this technology to do things. It was the only reason I didn't buy Half Life 2 (even though I loved Half Life 1), nor did I go with any of the premium module from Bioware Neve
Like someone said, Tiny ships are cheap to produce and are a great way to create a fleet of early defensive ships for your planets. If you are going for anything other than a military victory, these make it a fast way to defend your planets as well as raise your military value a little.
Build a economy starbase near those routes and upgrade it to get more from your trade.
This would be nice as a new feature to 'upgrade' the core ships. This is so ships don't look to vastly different near the beginning of the game.
To be fair, no one should get special treatment and have a price reduction. The only reason why the price varies in different countries is because of taxes, currency rate, retail price addition and discount on batches. But everyone kind of buying it at the same price more or less - although over time, the product value does depreciate (unless it becomes rare and sought out). US$44.95 is excellent value, as I brought it digitally from the UK,
As most people mention above, you need to trade technology to keep above it. You save a lot of time, getting 2+ technologies in a turn than researching it all by yourself - hence economy is important to buy all those technologies. It is what the AI does. You should be playing a smaller map to get an idea on developing your own strategic method because with a smaller map, there is less management and it is a ot easier - and go on from there.
The human chorus is cool, I always loved those kind of intros - they had it in Halo and Deus Ex as well. Although the latter two were human choirs than the opera style.
Just thought I mention my problems too as it might/not help. Anyway, I've been getting more crashes on my laptop with 1.0X. Admittely, this only happens if I play for an extended period of times ie > 3 hours or so. This is ignoring all the tiny graphical glictes in the UI - minimap, graphs etc There still seem to be some kind of overheati
