No Minors

I upgraded to the latest patch , 1.0X.1 and I am no longer encountering any Minors in my games. Yes , before you ask , I have searched the entire map. Still no minor powers. What gives?

Depends on the map size, and the number of major races you have. The bigger the galaxy and the less number of major races, the more minor you will have.

Actually, i'm having 0 Miner races too...

Start with a big galaxy with 1 or 2 major races and you will find them.

Currently, I'm on a large map with 8 ither major race, and so far come into contact with 2 minor races.

be4 the patch, i played Gigantic Galaxies, with 9 players, and have around 10 miners.

Now, after the patch

I play Gigantic Galaxies, with 9 players, and 0 miners.

The patch toned down the minors. Playing huge I run into max 3 minors. I liked having more but it made winning to easy.

The number of minors are now randomized depending on galaxy size.
Before, I think that there always were 4 minors on large, 8 on gigantic etc...

I got 0 minors on my latest large game and I must say that I didn't miss them at all, IMO they don't add anything to the game right now.

if you really wanted to prove yourself a jerk, you could have included the differing etymologgies, "mine" coming from a celtic word for ore, menor being latin for small or inferior.

anyway, i only jumped on this post because i thought it'd be cool if there was a slider for minor races. the new patch made them less of an "all over the map" thing.... i liked that in games sometimes. it made the universe seem less empty, and I also like them because when there are a good number of them in the game, their trade can become pretty important.

and i could have spelled etymology correctly, too.

I have the patch on a gigantic map with the max of major something like 8 (defeated minors included) minors or more and I don't have explored all the map I think there was around 12 or more in total.

I've played at least a half dozen games since I patched, on both Gigantic and Huge, without a full run of major races (so there was plenty of room), and I have not encountered one single minor race on any of them (again, since I patched). They're completely gone for me. I don't like that, at all.

I've been playing on large and huge maps with all 10 players, and I've had a few minors with no issues. I've also had a few pop up during the game. Dang Independant Leauge!

Could it be that by the time you get to their planet, they have already been conquered? Since it seems now there are fewer, and with a hige/gigantic map, they could be on the other side. So by the time you get where they were, they have been extinct.

the game WILL tell you if any race has been conquered, whether you know about them or not. So if that's the case I'd say there are alot of people just not paying attention. I've seen this "bug" once or twice, but it's not consitent so whoever said it was a random number now is probably right. Although I think it should be a slider as well.

I started watching carefully for conquer messages by my third game. Never got any warnings of their races being defeated. Going from a lively galaxy with minor races to a dull galaxy only consisting of the races I choose is ... well, guess it's obvious how I feel. I can understand if it was necessary to tweak them, and maybe I've just had horrible luck, but to go from lively to dead is too drastic a change in my opinion. I'd like to know how I could revert back to the last patch, lol.

I've also tried sizing down my galaxy... still no luck with minor races. If they're still here, some random event has got them hiding in sheer terror or something.

Of course! After all is SO DAMN HARD to spell a five letters word right that is totally unreasonale to expect someone actually doing it...

Once again, you add nothing at all to this discussion. And how are you better than him? I'm from Sweden and I know english grammar better than you.

To everyone else:
If you go into planet details on your homeworld, you can see how many minors there are at the start of the game. Just subtract the major races from the number of planets in the galaxy and you have their number.

I always play on a gigantic map , with 9 players. But I have tested it on diffrent map sizes with as few as 2 players and still no minors. I always pay attention to the GNN messages , not one defeated minor.

A slider would be very helpful : HOT : and would allow the player to build the galaxy he/she wanted to play in.

Thanks for all the quick replies

I also ran into a Huge-sized galaxy with no minors. This could be a random possibility, since I've started several games since the latest patch and this is the only one which had no minor civs in it.

You can check to see if the minors were present in the game (but conquered before you got to them) or not: either explore the galaxy or talk to the major civs. If you explore the galaxy, you can search for stars with the names of the minor civs: Dark Yor, Jessuins, Carinoids, etc. If you talk to the major civs, look in their planet lists to see if they include the names of minor races' planets. With either method, you should get the answer pretty definitively: if there is no star or planet named "Jessuins" then the Jessuins were not in the game.

By the way, if you start a game and don't encounter one minor race for a long time, there is a good chance that there are none to be found: they tend to explore pretty extensively and you will usually encounter one of their scouts or constructors fairly early on.
