It is far more important to jump out there immediately with colony ships. Take whatever you come across as your opponents certainly will. I blow most of my money on buying colony ships each turn as the galaxy is usually settled way way too fast. As far as planet builds, I always buy a factory first. Other than that, techwise I get the universal translator and try to minimize the AI's penchant for trading techs with abandon by

I like having all my games in the same directory, can I move where the game is located? I didn't see an option to using the Stardock Control system. Does the CD version offer this flexibility? Or did I just miss something?

This is more like a 2x game than a 4x game. Even playing on larger galaxies all I seem to be able to do is. Expand. Usually by the 2x I found in the game, see below. Exterminate. Provided I get around to the technologies to do that. Seems the only real way to expand as the game quickly devolves into a war. Someone is always going to want to throw a punch. Research. That seems to be the majority of the game for wha
Are different planets colonizable only by specific races? If so I have not see it but I still want to know, what good are these planets? Why have them? Do they become usable later? If so what technologies allow me to use them?
If the ship requires 0 weeks to do an upgrade it won't. A minimum of 1 week is required. I had to build a slightly more expensive ship to upgrade one of my colonies to construtor type.
Especially on smaller maps, it just seems as if the whole galaxy gets colonized too quickly. So, can the ranges of ships be reduced? I would like to see more of a requirement of building starbases to extend range and taking of closer in systems. As it stands now I can move ships almost all the way across the smaller maps with the ranges as the game stands.
tried it, all out of servers. the download just keeps resetting back to the beginning of the file without any message to that effect. It seems to get stuck at the same point no matter where I source it from. I have now caught it stuck twice at 47% which is 270,408kb
gc2_Movies.sdc I have left my computer many times now to come back and see this damn thing still downloading. Worse it just seems to automagically restart over and over and never gets anywhere. I can see the files in my doc/settings/temp/sdcontrol (names shortened) and the biggest it every got was around 50mb that I saw. Just what is it doing?
I think making the tutorials, maybe even just a few, available as stand alone items for download by anyone would go a long way towards promoting the game
Also, the movies seem to take forever to download. I come back and on occasion see it back at 1% or so. I have changed servers to see if that fixes the problem. If its downloading multiple movies then can it at least make that obvious. This download has been going on nearly 6 hours at 150kb/s and never seems to complete. I stopped it twice to force the other items to download but still, even after hours it seems to revert to 1-3% OK. Twice it stopped at 270,4
One thing I always dislike seeing is the ability to buy stuff outright. It seems a curse of games which have monetary systems. It doesn't seem to matter what I want to buy, big or small, if I have the cash someone mysteriously pops up with a matter transmorgrifier and "poof" - instant I prefer to see money used to overdrive production, buy off rebellious citizens, and even to buy your opponent some headaches. <b
