Whats the point of 0 size planets?

Are different planets colonizable only by specific races? If so I have not see it but I still want to know, what good are these planets? Why have them? Do they become usable later? If so what technologies allow me to use them?

And class 0 planets can have events happen to them to make them not class 0 planets.

The main point is, you can see planet systems at the beginning of the game (with stellar cartography) but not the quality of the planets. So you set out to explore a sector stuffed with planets, hoping there is a bunch of high quality planets, but you just might find a bunch of worthless ones. Meanwhile, a system with only two planets might have two great planets. So you set your exploration priorities with the number of planets in a sector in mind, but the game might throw you a curve ball by making what appears to be a rich sector near worthless, or a poor one valuable.

Just makes the initial exploration period more exciting and fun, seeing how lucky or unlucky you get. Once the map is cleared, yeah, they are just eye candy. But it still makes the game more realistic, as a lot of planets in the universe will be worthless to any space faring civilization.

No, all class 0 planets are uninhabitable to all races. They're there to provide "terrain", but I think there's an event that can make some of them usable.

Edit: beaten by Frogboy.

I think it would be very cool if Class 0 planets had a chance to have resources that could be harvested with starbase modules.

Well one thing I noticed is that the opponents seem to always get a better playing field.

I have to play a game where I got a planet beyond size 10 but regularly encounter races with them. They also seem to have lots of resources just near them. Is this part of the system generation to make them more viable?

It seems to be pretty random. I've gotten pretty good resources and whatnot in a couple games, and in one the Altarians had nearly a quarter of the map to themselves. You've got to rush build colony ships and constructors early on to secure the good stuff.

Ya, I gotta say...I played a normal game with everything set at completely and totally average.

My homeworld is class 10.

all 5 of the other races have at LEAST a class 14 or higher homeworld.

ticks me off seriously...no wonder they flat out outclassed me...heck, one of em had a class 15 (homeworld) and a class 12 in the same system...guess who won that game.

it's random. If you're unsure try pressing ctrl-N a few times to generate a new galaxy and start over. you'll see a lot of variation
