You're welcome. Resolution variations are not necessarily a bug with the code, just a problem that needs troubleshooting if you don't know what's going on behind the scenes. Glad it worked for you.

Your debug.err will also show your last debug messages before you crash. I don't know much about SE at all, but if you wanted to post your most recent debug.err I would be happy to take a look at it. I downloaded SE myself but haven't had a need to use it so far.
Since you can't launch the game you can manually adjust the resolution in your prefs.ini file. It is found in your MyGames/GalCiv2 folder.
Enjoy the game. P.S. Your audio drivers are at this Link ... ...and the Beta is not the latest patch, 1.0X is. Try it first. Good luck.

Yes, but it appears you left off the first half of the debug report. Just copy and paste the entire thing, not just the lines that say "Debug Message:" The beginning 50 lines or so are really important too. I'll check back later after dinner for the rest.
Why don't you make your own thread MtO Retread, and post your debug.err in it? Being polite would help.
@colinf, I believe your CTDs are related to your last line and also to the Beta. Revert to 1.0X if you want. @ruinousworks: Driver Version: 6.14.0010.4523 Driver Date: 7/28/2003 15:19:00 -Update your video drivers at this Lin
That is by design. Both player and AI survey vessels can find hidden anomolies. Consider it one of the abilities of the sensor module.
Well can you please use notepad to post your debug.err file? It is found in your GalCiv2 folder. Please post all of the information in it. At the top left of the page is a link to Downloads. The latest supported patch is 1.0X, so be sure to get it. Keep in mind that upgrading to a newer version (patch) may corrupt your save game file. After you have run the game with the latest patch, post your new debug.err file, as well as
Glad to hear it's working now. Gal Civ 2 seems to be really finicky when it comes to updated drivers. Also, being careless with resolutions settings causes alot of display problems for people too. Anyways, hope you enjoy the game as much as the rest of us, and I'd advise you to play the game a bit before trying the beta. You don't want to jump into that until you have had some time to enjoy your purchase. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/
Find your prefs.ini file and you can manually adjust it there. MyGames/GalCiv2/prefs.ini I believe the command line needs to be changed to something like: Fullscreen=0 Someone who has done this before correct me if I'm wrong on that last part.
1.1 is a beta right now, is unsupported, and you should be prepared for it to crash as it is a beta... *When you need help with a crash/glitch, please use notepad to post your entire debug.err file from your galciv2 folder. Now for your problem; BSOD with driver problem and ATI mobile card. -If you can't get a more recent driver from ATI, try the omega drivers from this Link -There are several threads already

Are you trying to load a save game from a previous patch? I'm pretty sure you can corrupt your saves by trying to carry over one scenario to a new patch. Also, for future reference, can you post the whole debug report? Thanks.
-update your year old video drivers -update your audio drivers (you have two devices enabled, are they conflicting?) -try running in window mode -run the game and your desktop in the *same* resolution Note: If you can't change your game resolution, do it manually in your prefs.ini file found in the mygames/galciv2 folder. That should give you a starting point. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/W
"Page File: 328MB used, 277MB available" -You might try increasing the size of your virtual memory, might explain the late game crashes. -Update your video drivers, 2 years old -Update your audio drivers, 2 years old At the end of your debug it says random event, you might be crashing due to one of those, but at least get your drivers up to date.
Did you check your debug.err? Also, it might be the auto-save or something, try disabling that.
Hmm, you might be having some kind of memory issue there. Don't know if it is the game or your RAM or what. Have you tried running the game with the anti-aliasing turned off? Unrelated possibly but you never know.
Okay, well at least there are really cheap cards available that will run this game.
-Update your old gfx drivers at this Link -Update your old audio drivers if possible -Check this Link to see if those drivers need updating -Update your game to the latest 1.0X patch. -After patching make sure framerate throttling is turned on -Keep your game and desktop resolutions the same until you
Yeah I never knew about them until I saw people posting about them being missing. I loaded up a save game, zoomed in on the first 3 habitable planets I came across and 2 of them had lights. Never been a problem here, though I hardly see why it matters in a strategy game LOL
Can't tell if you've done everything recommended above so: 1. Download the latest official patch 1.0X (if you haven't already), then run the game. 2.Next, post the ENTIRE debug.err file, not just portions of it. Can tell more from seeing it all. It really looks like it is the age of your card and/or drivers. Is there any way you can try a different driver or two?
Could you be more specific? Did you download the game or buy it on CD from a store? Also how are you trying to start the game?
As a general rule, just expect all of your saves to be corrupted when you upgrade to a new version (patch). If you are in the middle of a game, finish it up or abandon it before patching. EDIT: If you read this, could you edit the title of your original post by adding (resolved) to the end of your title? Thanks.
