First time I heard of GalCiv2 was the add in PC Gamer the month before release. Anyways, for some reason I decided to look up the website, found the forums, saw devs posting and bought the game shortly after. My advice: Push the AI. It is unique for each Civ. and critically acclaimed, etc. Push customization options. Push Ship Builder. Screenshots. No art concept type stuff.

"Debug Message: A* Path too long to calculate (21.). Aborting" I've seen numerous posts with people crashing and that as the last line of text from their debug. I think I saw Brad respond to one or two of them so I'm sure it's being addressed. If it is making the game unplayable you can always revert to 1.0X, or if you want to, patch in the Beta 2. EDIT: Just found this on the v1.1 Beta 2 journal entry. Advise you to patch in the new beta <img src="http://images.

Revert from the beta back to the 1.0X patch. If you want to keep running the beta release, expect crashes, but post your debug.err info as well as an explanation of what happened at the time.

"Driver Date: 2/6/2002 16:32:48" Grab the newest drivers at this Link Try running your game in the same resolution as your desktop if you still have problems. Keep in mind you are running a beta version as well, the latest supported patch is 1.0X

You can use Wordpad to open your debug.err file as well. I'm running the game with no problems on an nVIDIA FX 5200 and they are super cheap now.

I believe you have to use a 3rd party program to take screen captures. I've not done it but you can do a quick search on the left hand side of your screen to find some earlier posts discussing options for doing this. Good luck fixing your problem, the devs should be able to help you.

open your prefs.ini file and find the line HardwareMouseCursor=0 Changing the 0 to 1 or back to 0 turns it on and off. Don't forget to save your changes too.

Are you running the game in a resolution larger than your desktop? You might try setting them to the same size.

I'm not sure what Stardock prefers. I would avoid reposting the same debug.err info though. My meaning was that it is easier for people to help you troubleshoot your problem if you have your own thread than if you are just one debug.err file listed with dozens of others. I'm not sure how the quickstart function works, as I just launch the game normally. Also, you can run the game just fine in fullscreen mode, not using a quickstart .exe? My advice

Hmmm, you should turn the anti-aliasing off. What you're describing sounds similar to problems related to that. But I don't know much about your card either. Also, your audio is emulated? It's not listing any drivers or anything, kind of strange to me. Some people were crashing from old audio drivers, it is possible you are getting these funky issues from an audio problem and not gfx. A shot in the dark though. I'm not sure how it is done, but yo

This was discussed ad nauseum the week of release, and addressed by the devs. You could use the search button on the left to dig up the old posts if you are really concerned about it. Keep in mind alot of people are playing a beta version right now, so some people might be playing different versions of the game than others, and at different difficulty levels.

A few of you haven't had replies so here's some general troubleshooting tips: -Post your entire debug.err file which can be opened with notepad from your GalCiv2 folder. -***Like the original post states, update your video drivers.*** -If you have an ATI or nVIDIA card you can try 3rd party drivers from this Link . -Update your audio drivers. -If you have a dual core processor check this <a href="https://forums.galciv2.com/

Since you think there are files missing, first thing I would do is re-install (re-download if applicable). Some other random things to check: -Run the game and your desktop in the same resolution -Update your audio drivers -Try running Windows in English -Try running the game in window mode

Won't let me edit so: -Make sure you have anti-aliasing turned off. EDIT: It's fixed? Alrighty then...

Well looks like most of your settings are good except for the sound drivers. There was someone with a MX 400 or 440 a few weeks back that had the same problem I think. He ended up getting a newer card and it fixed it. Just to understand your problem, are you seeing the 3D ship models and not the textures on them? Or are they appearing as icons and not as 3D models?
