I'm betting on old video drivers. Either way, please post your debug.err info from your GalCiv2 folder.

You need new drivers. Alot of people are having luck with Omega Drivers . Also your audio drivers are 2 years old as well, and I'd update them too. Also, try running the game at the same resolution as your desktop, just to make sure you can run it. Try running at different resolutions once you are sure you can run the game. I'm 90% sure it is your old drivers on your mobile gfx card though. <img src="http://images.st
Hmm, random events bugs have been reported before, don't know a workaround for them though. The colony ship CTD might be related to the beta version you are running. On a side note, you might try disabling one of your audio devices and updating those 5 year old drivers. The audio might be crashing you during a random event, though that's a stretch.
Try turning off your anti-aliasing in the options menu, and can you post your debug.err file from your GalCiv2 folder please?
Hmm, are there any other drivers you can roll back to to see if it is the Omega drivers? Or if it is just your card in this specific instance? You might email your info to SD if you haven't already. Might be they can fix this on their side. Seems like you got it narrowed down pretty close now.
You might try running your antivirus and antispyware programs. Also can you dig up and post your debug.err file from your GalCiv2 folder?
Well that's about all you can do from this point. Thought I would mention that you might turn off autosaving if you are having CTD after/during an autosave (since you mentioned it). Not that big of a bother to manually save, if it avoids a CTD. I've not had that problem but since others have posted about it, it might resolve some of your 'random' CTDs.
-You have two audio devices, try disabling one. -Update your audio driver dated 2001. -Try disabling auto-save feature. -Turn off anti-aliasing setting. -If your problem is related to the random events happening, I can't help you sorry
From the trade screen, you can ask another civ to "declare war" etc. Also you start a war with an AI civ by physically attacking them. I definitely provoke the AI into declaring war on me first on a regular basis. Hope that helps. EDIT: I always play with the AI on Intelligent. If you are playing at a lower level than that, the AI plays dumb(er).
Well I think it is some sort of conflict between the way your monitors are set up and the resolution the game is trying to use. Not sure how your system is set up, so hard to say for sure. If you use the native monitor do you have the same problem or just with the external?
Well since you have Stardock Central, you can uninstall it there like I did a couple times. Launch the SDC application, go to Games, find GalCiv2. Right click on GalCiv2 and select "uninstall" from the list that pops up after right clicking. That's all there is to it. I imagine uninstalling from a CD install will work normally though. EDIT: Sorry, I'm at work and can't double check. But uninstall is a button or from the drop down menu or both, can't remember LOL Either way you u
I think playability on laptops is tied heavily into whether or not you can get up to date drivers for your graphics card. Try running dxdiag from your Run... command line and post that info here. I would assume that as long as you have current drivers and meet the minimum specs, you can run the game. Note that DirectX 9.0c compatibility is a minimum req.
Hmm, are you trying to run the game outside of your max supported resolution? "Current Display Mode: 1152 x 864 (32 bit) (85Hz) Monitor Name: Sony Notebook LCD (1280x800) Monitor Max Resolution: 1280,800" Maybe try it in 1024x768 or 1280x800? Also, are your sound drivers conflicting? You might want to disable one of your sound cards. And are the Omega drivers the latest for your card? I see you have mob
Try setting Windows to English in regional settings. Also there is an option for 'tactical zoom level' or something like that in one of the options screens. Assuming your drivers are up to date, it is probably one of those two things above.
People have had CTDs from old sound drivers as well. Your are 3 years old. You should really update both sets of drivers just to rule them out. Also, your debug.err ends on "Finished auto save." I highly recommend turning off the auto save feature in your options menu, as some others have posted CTDs during/after auto saves. Also, you might try updating to the 1.1 Beta, but that is entirely up to you. Okay, to sum up: -Update the two o
Well your gfx driver is 15 months old and your sound driver is over 5 years old. That would be the first place I would start. Also I think you can get more visibility by posting your debug info in a new thread instead of on this page. Not sure if Brad meant for this post to be where you report it or not, but it is easier to keep track of people's problems when each person has their own thread. Just a thought.

Hmm, hopefully they can straighten it out for you. I've been jogging my memory and I recall someone saying that their save or end of turn was causing seemingly random CTD. Turned out that there was a ship on autopilot that when the computer went to move it at the end of turn, it would cause a CTD. Cancelling the movement or something would prevent the CTD from recurring. I don't remember all the details, but it would be something to look into.</fo
DId you try disabling your sound card like he recommended? Maybe check if the drivers can be updated for them too.
It is in your galciv2 folder; mine is at this path though yours might be different: C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2
I'm going to bed now, but I will try to look for your post in the morning. Someone else will probably beat me to it. I thought I typed this earlier, but you might try your game at the same resolution as your desktop as well, just to rule it out.
Your debug.err shows alot more than that. If you aren't willing to post it, not sure how much help you can get here without going to Stardock's support. Having said that, I would recommend downloading the latest patch for the game or the new beta patch. If you are using the autosave feature you might try turning it off and see if that helps (just manually save). Without your debug info though, there's not alot to go on. <img src="http://images.sta
The whole way distance is dealt with in this game is abstract. Switching from a square grid to hexagons is only going to change things from one abstraction to another. I'd much rather see the dev's energy put into things like they've already been doing with 1.1 etc. Just a thought.
The only way to increase your RAM is to buy more and add it to your machine. You can increase the size of your paging file (virtual memory), though I'm not sure that it will reduce the ALT-TAB load times.
Can you post your debug.err?
