Hi all, I just installed the gold edition again, it had been almost a year I had not played, I also purchased the new expansion from Stardock yesterday (0.98a[b].003I played my first game today and the game crashed, the turn button disappeared.Has this happened to anybody else? Anyway I forgot how good this game is, I'll try playing again.
Hokay, I'm gonna guess that the 'new expansion' you purchased is TA as you said 'gold edition' was the one you reinstalled. If memory
I mentioned I'd played this and previous iterations of GalCiv for years and am well aware that random events can occur. But I have never before experienced a game-ending random event
They're called MEGA events, are fairly new to GalCiv, and are a separate thing to disable from regular random events if I'm not mistaken. They tend to have fairly MEGA consequences.
I ordered it from stardock.com
Do you not have broadband? If you have a broadband connection (it is also possible with dial up, albeit much much slower) then you can just download stardock central and get the latest beta and be playing it now.
It is kind of frustrating, as I've found my Yor and Iconian starbases to be a bit hamstrung - and that certain kinds of starbases are really suboptimal choices (influence for Yor, for example).
Heh, what kind of influence starbases would war mongering death machines build? Borg cubes? Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated ... by our superior culture! ;)

While I think perhaps they should vary the scenarios some, the whole point of a scenario is to play the game under StarDock's conditions and win. Sandbox mode is for people that want to play the game under their own conditions.

Yeah, the limit's based on the setting "number of opponents" (or something to that affect) YOU PICK when you first start the game. Unless somehow smaller galaxies limit you to a set number of races, playing large galaxies and above I've put all the races into play.
Pretty funny, you have treaties yet apparently you have never met.
Yeah I abused this bug by selecting 'talk to' when a race I never met tells me some info and then selling them all the tech I can. ;-P

Right, and I'm saying when the Barter Station, Merchant Emporium and Merchant Trade Complex came into play, they all three could be built on a planet and none of them upgraded to another nor replaced the other in the build list. I made a comment about barter stations not going to Merchant Emporiums while in the IRC channel w/Cari Elf and it appears by your statements she changed it to where Emporiums are now the upgrade target for Barter Centers. If that's the case, then I'd think Merchant Tra

*coughDRATHcough* Those buggers pay everyone and their mother to attack everyone else. As I'm playing the Korx it's GREAT (mercenaries) unless they're being paid to attack me. I have noticed that the Drath make things a little buggy. Like in the beginning of my game the Iconians (waaaay the other side of a gigantic map, don't have the range to meet them yet) keep telling me they're getting paid off by a powerful civ to attack so and so. To top things off, I'm in the bottom middle co
I got the button at the top menu but couldn't select anything to create a new medium ship, thre was no list, it was just empty.
Right. That button would be the 'filtering options' I described in my last post. If you don't pick any of those buttons and highlight anything, then ALL hulls are available in one big list. In beta 2 there was a bug that nothing had the right tag, so filtering would make everything disappear.

This was a sorting error in beta 2 I think. If you picked any of the filtering options other than 'all' from any of the shipbuilding menus in beta 2 everything disappeared. Reselect 'all' and then scroll down the list, the medium ships should be there. That issue was fixed with beta 3. Out of curiosity, why are you still running beta 2 if 3 is out?

Well, what are you trading them for? They get precursor archives right off and can research precursor libraries fairly quick. Then they get a few other precursor items sprinkled throughout the tech tree. The archives and the libraries together can give them quite a tech jump early game, but at a HUGE upkeep cost.

Two minor text "bugs" that I noted while playing as the Torians. 1: The text on the second and third power plant in that line of the tree say "now we can build (SecondTechNameHere)". I forget the tech names, and you get access to the correct buildings as far as I recall. 2: The text on the first and third (I think) portion of starbase fortification say the same thing.

Ok, played for a while and noticed one more bug - flipping a planet in the middle of constructing a 'one per race' like tech capital when you already have that same building does *not* clear it from the build queue. It does destroy all the buildings you can't support, which was noted as fixed in the changelog. However, since we can support the tech capitol, it stays even though we have one.

Ok, I saw in Cari_Elf's changelog for 2B where she mentioned she fixed warp bubbles. I thought I'd seen them available for the other races w/out researching the tech, but apparently not. I created a game as the torians to check on this and forgot to try and build a new ship on turn 1, but I did try some 10 to 15 turns in. I had normal tech on and had only researched Xeno Communications, Universal Translators, Space Liberation and the tech that gives 10 to social production. Xeno Engineering

Hrm, I never checked for sure but any time I went to create new ships (usually after having done some research) with any race warp bubbles were available. If I'm reading the change log correctly, it looks like you said you just fixed a Terran bug. I've been able to put warp bubbles on Yor, Arcean and Torean ships from pretty early on. Maybe it's attached to a semi-early tree tech that I'm just not seeing, but I usually read what each tech will give me fairly thoroughly. I guess I'll just fir

Bug: When flipping a planet whatever is in the build queue stays in the build queue. Even if you can't build it.

Not sure if this is a beta 2a bug or a bug in general. I made colony ship MKII by clicking 'upgrade' on the stock colony ship for the Torians back in beta 2. This game when the techs became available MKII showed up so I obsoleted the stock colony ship. I'd done this in the previous game and the shipyards building the stock ships automatically switched over to MKII. This game it didn't switch them, as I'm guessing they just became available instead of me making them by clicking 'upgrade'.

Yeah, charging stalks = 0 morale improvement once you take the extra population into account. Interesting, I had researched advanced charging stalks and I thought that mine all upgraded. I know they were no longer 0 turn buildings to build charging stalks after I researched advanced charging stalks.

Oh! One more thing - I only get 8 points to allocate towards abilities now when starting games as the Torian or the Yor. I've not yet tried any other races to see if this is happening with them, too. Cari_elf just told me in the IRC channel that the Torians have only had 8 points for a while. I could *swear* I remember having the points to put towards 20% pq improvement, a point for luck and another point in something random.
