Question for y'all. I remember when I played GC1, say I told a bunch of ships to go to some location(s) across the map, then I hit 'end turn'. What would happen is that as each ship dot moved in the normal map display, the corresponding dot would also move on the minimap. Plus the window indicator would also move, so I could see which part of the galaxy I was looking at. (I think... am I making up this last part???) I

I thought I read that they fixed this... let's confirm that the people having problems are using the latest version...
OK, so SD has obviously decided it is time to get me off the forums, and has proposed the following for 1.1: - Color coded the hammers/etc. based on whether they are bonus or not. Then on mouse over, which by then should be very nice, we can display where these numbers come from. - Unused Social Spending routed to military spending (or back to treasury if nothing is being used) I can see this going a long way towards
an admin of the StarForce Forum posted a link where you can illegaly dl Galactic Cicilisations 2 IF that's really true, then talk about sore losers! Actually I just found out, GC2 DOES ship with StarForce, it is the Dread Lords uber technology and it gets activated if you lose the game to them... (KIDDING
In moo2 they weren't reusable... and we all love moo2, right? right??????
Before I inevitably say anything else I just have to say: Awesome post. Posters, please respect SD. This is an age where devs/publishers trick you into buying the game, begrudgingly fix the worst bugs, then all the people in charge of the project retire because they sold 500 billion copies and they could care less whether you hate them and will buy their next game. Instead, SD does the unthinkable. They respect you. Don't screw it up.
Where do you think they got the idea for the Yor?
This post is going to sound a lot worse than I intended. Here it goes... Beware ANY screen in this game that gives you statistics related to production, but not spending. Unfortunately not every display in the game accurately accounts for things such as bonuses and the like. You usually have to look at your production on a planet (number of hammers/shields/beakers) AND the amount of money spent BEFORE and AFTER activating the bonus in order to see what is going on. <
Although we're not all entitled to our 1st amendment freedom of speech here on the forum run by SD, I think people should be allowed to post their criticism of the game if they do so in a non-flaming and non-juvenile manner. If they make good artugments for what they are saying and don't attack anyone personally that's one thing, if all they do is post "zOMG GC2 is teh Sux!!!!111one" then they'll get what they deserve.... Unfortunately the reality of the industry is that the only veh
Just curious what everyone is shooting for in terms of planetary population.... do you go for 30billion and moderate taxes or keep it closer to 10billion and tax the heck out of them (and trade off farms for morale boost improvements). Or less population and more trade centers? I don't have a favorite yet and dont know if one is better than another. Just curious what everyone thinks is best. I'm leaning toward moderate taxes and higher populations, because if you have a developin
This is where being able to single focus, AND double focus (or single de-focus) would pay off... You could set your Social to 50%, then focus on social on the wonder planet to bring it up to ~75% social, and then de-focus on social on the already built up planet to reduce social spending there to ~25%. It's not perfect and there is still a fair amount of waste, but it
Apparently everyone's a soldier. Precisely. For those of you keeping track, this is following the MOO1 model which makes no distinction between civilian and military (Like MOO2 did). Or, the 5 billion people on each planet is the military AND the taxpaying population at the same time... and the real civilian population is much higher. Take y
1) OP: You are hilarious 2) Send in the chimps! Some tips - Those bonus tiles for manufacturing do NOT give you free production, they allow you to pay for more production. Important to realize the difference. - The manufacturing capital DOES give you free production - Unconfirmed whether the tech capital gives you free research. If I had to GUESS I would say yes but its unconfirmed. - It does not matter on what planet you build your labs. - It does matt
I found the best way to get the influence victory was to . . . remove . . . the planets from other civs I found this particularly funny. Remove as in "You have failed me for the last time?"
Techn0mage is a genius. I agree with everything he said. W00t! I'm counting on your vote in the next planetary election! Finally a post that I can agree with! (thanks.) OK, seriously though, someone made a great point. <TD class="mb-Body-Q
Someone asked if we could stop planets from auto-upgrading facilities. You can do this on the colony details screen. I've said before that one of my problems is that a lot of the values are hidden from the player. Here's an example. You can see how much social/military your colony is producing by looking at the shields/hammers at the top of the screen. But you can't see what comes from your facilities, what comes from capactiy bonuses, and how much you're actually paying for and h
To try and get back on track with strategy discussion, the precursor mine example really gave me something to think about regarding the production issue, by providing an extreme example of how things go wrong when the industrial capacity of your planets is not built up evenly. Having that precursor mine and manufacturing capital on the same planet made me realize what happens when one planet has 10x the production capacity of all your others. Scenarios: Most funding is all
Sorry guys, I was not trying to turn this into an idea-fest of how it should work, or into a forum for bashing SD. Going back to my first post, I was saying, in a roundabout way, "Argh the economy is killing me! Here is a tip that I just learned! How are you dealing with the economy?" What I was trying to do was ask the question "How are you, as players, dealing with the rules of the game in order to play the best game that you can?" If the answer comes back as "Planetary invasio
If you have many planets not building anything, you just set the social bar low in order to save your money Petykemano is bringing up the next logical strategic tip... it might be considered safer to boost allocations to military or research and "Focus" on social only when the planet is building a social project than it is to push the social sl
What are you eaxctly meaning? The summary screen doesn't give you the actual production of your planets? Hey there, we are writing at the same time, I did not even see this post while I was writing my reply. Not to speak for someone else (since you weren't asking me), but the summary screen definitely does not include the production bonus for
I really don't understand how bonuses tiles works Another case of the game not giving you the whole story. I just confirmed for production bonus at least, the game does not show the effect of the bonus when you click on the tile OR when you click on the 'summary' screen. Bad Stardock, Bad! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/
Thanks all for your input. Going to try to quote a few people here. I laughed out loud when I read this: This actually is the way things work in real life, sadly You got me! If realism is what you crave, enjoy this part of the game! What I was trying to do was not complain that the waste was there (in other words, complain about the rules of the game). What I was looking
I think the 'problem' people are having is that they only hit the diplomacy screen every x number of turns, whereas it's no problem for every AI to examine every other player (human + AI) every single turn and re-evaluate whether it wants to make an offer for a trade. That way if A is at war with C, B and C trade techs, then A and B trade techs, each for fair prices. Now imagine you are C and you start wondering how A got your technology... I'm -guessing- the difficulty
I am really enjoying GC2 and I'm thrilled to see that it is getting the recognition it deserves. My hope is that it will shame some of the larger development/publishing houses into not acting like sleazebags and actually making better games. Disclaimer aside, my biggest gripe with GC2 is about the economy. For those of you interested in my "book", see post here: https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=346&AID=101763#813913 I'll sum up that rant here though, I'm disa
