I very much enjoyed the old system, You kept putting money into it (like you should) for updated information, it was compaired to how much your oponent spent against you, and no micro managing something you shouldnt have to manage. 2. well, been a while, and I stopped playing GC really because of the spy system. I don't know if anyones played Pax Imperial Emanate Domain but that really had the best espionage system. You had a kind of Slider that would increase or decrease your Espionage rating. This then was compared to other races for success/ failure when performing black ops missions such as causing instability, stealing ships, ship positions/ movent ect. Please change the spy system! The current system is garbage, the old way was a great deal better. Change it to how it was and add a counter esp system to keep people from constantly keeping those spy networks on you. Id like to see trade routes / civilian transports between your planets. This would give you a reason to protect your boarders so those pesky enemy fighters don't get in an wreck havoc on your defenseless infrastructure. The only "infrastructure" we see thus far is between different species. Should be easy to do, set up how much you tax your trade routes, then designate safe paths between planets. Why is this so complicated? Carriers are logistics. They should allow for a greater field of mobility on the map for smaller ships. Lets make this simple. Carrier modual can carry ships via logistic points. you "dock" smaller ships into these carriers ie, largest single size ship is 1-4. however it can carry 20 points of logistics, that means you have 20 little ships, or 5 more powerful ships docked. Reality (bare with me) is you give specil ops and trusted personel money and tell them to find ways to knock out enemy defenses, steal ships, gather technology ect. If you look at Star Trek, all ships in the Federation are science vessels, just with guns. The Federation belive its unethical to build war ships (they felt they had to build the defiant) Building Science Vessels should give you bonueses when they are, "studying" say orbiting a Gas planet performing research ect. Ill agree with you GW. I am hurting myself more then I could simply enjoy the game for what it is. I had no complaints with Dread Lords, but sometimes you just do too much and make things worse. DAoC and SWG are two prime examples of how over tweeking a game can lead to failure however. In the DA beta they had a selector in the game customization menu where you can select and make spying DL style rather then DA. I Like alot of the stuff in DA. But I wish it was still beta, so I could choose which Espionage type to use. Ive had some really good games go to crap because of it. When an expansion comes out for anything, its almost usless to play with out it. I start missing the new things they threw in it.
This game is far from complete, to me this game is a Living Classic. One that will evolve and continue to grow with imput. One day this game will be so great, that when a new engin comes out for it, the game will be copyed over to the new engin, then just improved from that point. The concept of this game is perfect, and I will stand by the makers and fund them so one day, I will sit down and play this game, and be perfectly happy about playing nothing else.

This game dosnt reflect reality or history. Its just a game, somones concept of something to play. If people enjoy playing it, there isnt a problem. I can deal with pretty much all the flaws this game has, except the spies. That ruins it.
GC gold has the old spy system, though not perfect, you basically spend money on spying on opponents to get a diplomacy bonus, and information such as exact spending and such. Even if they spend money on the spy network, its impossible to block, and once you reach the HIGH status of spying, you can stop spying. Which was really bad. The new spy system was introduced in Dark Avatar, the expansion for GC2. now you have, “agents” that you pay for and get more expensive per agent. You have
the AI in this game is crazy though. And in this game, I take my sweet time per move, and have fun with it. MP would kinda kill it for me. in Pax Imperia getting a LAN was interesting, and people often got screwed when trying to design a ship and they would get attacked or something dumb.
