Wouldn't a combat ship with attack 1 and defense 1 (or greater) vs. a ship with attack 1 and defense 1 (or greater), result in a stalemate because the attacker would role a 1...1=1 and the defender a 1...1=1? Neither ship would be able to inflicted damage on the other but combat continues until there is a winner! Anyone seen this situation?

Prehaps you should have read the MANY posts in the forums that you MUST update your video drivers, or the README file that said the same, or the warning when you installed the game that your drivers needed updating before complain in these public forums!!! It makes the game look bad when it is really the user's fault!!!
Last night I accidently clicked on OBSOLETE when my base Star Hawk (heavy fighter with just eye candy, no functional components) was selected. I could not undo this action. Link So then I tried basing my new design on my Star Hawk MkII on the Star Hawk MkI but hit your problem #2 when trying to remove components to make room for newer ones. The other bug that has caused me gr
Best Buy, EB, and Gamestop have put in additional orders that actually exceed their initial sell-in orders (which you may recall were 3X what GalCiv I's initial retail presence was). How is this possible? No one is ever going to accuse us of being a marketing juggernaut. It's not like there was a 6 month build up of "hype" or whatever. Few reviews are up yet.<
I have limited playing time these days. I justed completed the second mission of the Dread Lords campaign last night on level Tough. Those Drengin troops are tough (or I'm just unlucky as I usually came in on the low end of the invasion odds)! It took 4 waves of 3000M shock troops using classic invasion (I like preserving planets) to take the main planet. I guess I should have used mass drivers or built the troop training super project. I can't wa
Any chance of getting the ad in better resolution so I can use it to convince some friends? The type is a wee bit hard to read... I agree! It looks great but I wish it was BIGGER! I first heard about GalCiv2 after reading a review of one of the Beta releases in GameSpot. It looked like it could be the Space 4X game I have been searching
I have been playing the Dread Lords campaign on level Tough. After researching "Starbase Fortifications I", I am unable to install weapon or defense modules on my starbases. I have tried for both mining starbases and military starbases (I did not try the other types). I never had this problem with the Beta but then the Beta did not have this campaign. I have not tried the sandbox game yet so I don't know if this is just happening in the campaign.<b
I think Brad/Frogboy made a comment that there are no plans for adding carriers because of problems which balancing the game and recoding the AI for them. Others have asked for Terror Stars (planet killers) in GalCivI, that were left out to keep the game balanced; although, I think they could be added as long as they were extremely expensive and required very advanced techs so that building them would be difficult.
I decided to take the role of Mascrinthus, the last of the good Mithrilars Link , to balance Brad/Frogboy's choice Draginol. ;) I ask all good/neutral empires join the Altarian empire and I against the evil Draginol, the Dread Lords, the Drengin, and Yor!!!
By the way I chose Mascrinthus, the last of the good Mithrilars Link , to balance Brad/Frogboy choice Draginol.
You should be able to copy a core design (say for the cosmetic features), modify it, and save the new design under a new name. Link Paul D.
I thought the DELETE button did delete the design from C:\Documents and Settings\*insert user name here*\My Documents\My Games\Galciv2\ships\. So then what is the difference between DELETE and OBSOLETE!?
I take the neutral alignment as do most of the AIs. The trade benefits are nice, plus the added weapons and defenses.
What am I missing here? How do you get to examine your ship up close like that instead of the small window? And how do you change the colors like this to make it darker? I've seen several screenshots posted like this. You can zooming in on ships both in the shipyard and on the galaxtic map using the m
wait 'till you meet the dread lords in the next mission. I have a plan to deal with the Dread Lords. Since their ships will chase after any ship they see (especially ones with weapons), I'll create fast ships with a basic weapons to lure them. Initially I can lure them to Drengin and Yor territory, to keep them in check. Meanwhile, I will setup a
All my suggestions for UI improvements involve the shipyard. #1 Replace the UPGRADE Button with a COPY Button Link I create base ship designs with just cosmetic (i.e.,eye candy, no functional components) features. During games I click the UPGRADE button on a base model, add ship components, and save under a new name. This can't be done with the core ship designs because you are
If you research advanced troop modules, they can each hold 1000M troops vs. 500M for the standard modules plus they take up space 12 vs. 20. So you can place 3 of them on a cargo ship for 3000M troops, even more if you research min techs.
So far I have just been playing as Human. I spend the spare 4 credits on getting a 50% boost to military production. I choose the technology party for the research and sensor boost. I played and won the first part of the campain on level tough. I set my spending at 100% and leave my tax rate at 33%. I focus on building up my infastructure (researching teches for advanced factories, lab, trade centers, and farms and building them on my planets), expanding, and getting warp tech (th
In My Games\GalCiv2\Prefs.ini I have: HyperthreadEnhancement=0 ThreadedInitialLoading=0 I have a Hyperthread P4. Should I have these enabled? What do they do? Is there documentation for My Games\GalCiv2\Prefs.ini?
Is that Michelle Forbes's voice in the intro video? Michelle Forbes Link is best known for her role as Ro Laren on Star Trek TNG and more recently appeared on the new Battlestar Galactica.

He finished off the Dread Lords in under 24 hours but I, Mascrinthus (the last remaining good Mithrilar) was secretly helping him defeat the Dark Mithrilar, Draginol. But seriously what difficulting level are you playing? I'm still on the first part of the campain because I did not get to start until very late last night so only got up to May 2226. However, at difficulty level Tough which
Twice the installation failed because it complained I had invalid account info and made me reenter my serial number. StarDock Central now shows everything updated, so we'll see what happens after I make the final downloads tomorrow! I never had any problems with the Beta downloads.
Back in 2000 I moved from Ottawa Canada (the world's second coldest capital) to the much warmer Stafford Virginia (1 hour south of D.C.). The thought of working as a game developer got me to pursue a Computer Science degree back in the 80's. These days I'm working at AOL, on multi-threaded streaming servers written in C or a mixture of C/C++ for Linux and Solaris.
Brad, will the AI fixes you made following this game (e.g., fix for the AI not building up the PQ 17 planet) be available Feb. 21? PQ15+ planets usually are host to one or more of my capitals (manufactory, research, economic, and/or political). If you build more than one stock exchange on a planet, do you get additional bonuses (i.e., should my economic capital have several stock exchanges) and are those bonuses local to that planet or global to your empire? In the Beta5 I would usual
