It probably wouldn't have adverse effects without an increased user-mode virtual address space - it just wouldn't do anything. :-) I think a likely cause of "failures in one case but not another" is the memory fragmentation issue. Unfortunately it is not just our problem, but those of library and driver writers (especially the latter, now that user mode drivers are in-vogue for video cards and sound cards). Increasing virtual address space may work for a time. However, it may a

Pikachu kicked ass in Super Smash Brothers. :) (I also have the Pokemon anime theme tune on my playlist . . . the episodes I've seen kinda suck, though)
Multiplayer is a required feature for games.
No it isn't. If it were, it would not be listed a feature (e.g. "Saves and loads games", "displays to screen", "allows user input"). It would be nice to have it. But we only have so many people on the game team (and, by "so many", I mean "so few"), and it has consistently failed to be the top priority. Firaxis is about three times our size (compare <a href="htt

Regarding memory fragmentation - this is something we are aware of and will be attempting to address in 1.7. There are various things that can be done, such as allocating in bulk and using the Low Fragmentation Heap, though ultimately there is no permanent solution except for but some form of garbage collection. Do not worry, the spirit of memory-pinching is still alive! Large Address Aware only helps if the user has also enabled the USERVA option, so we will probably be providing instr

Frogboy - Brad Wardell - is the CEO. He is not support. The US already has the lowest average number of holidays in the developed world. Stardock tries to give their employees a reasonable number, because often people want to spend time with their families.

The information provided during activation comprises your machine ID (a unique identifier based on the install), the product ID, your email address, and your password or serial number. If your serial is valid but we have no record of a transaction, we may also ask you your first name, last name and where you found out about the product. I think that 1GB of RAM and gigantic galaxies are a recipe for trouble. There is just too much going on at that point, and too much data to store. I have just upgraded to 2Gb on my own Vista box at home, and things are much better in general.

Multiplayer gaming is important to many games because good AI is hard to do well, and has to be maintained against player tricks to stay good. If social interaction with an intelligent opponent is a part of the game design then social interaction with other people is a reasonably close approximation to this. However, there are certain disadvantages to playing with other people - and you can spend almost as much time figuring ou

Note that LogonStudio Vista is not designed to work with pre-release versions of Windows Vista. Using Vista RC1 has been the cause behind both "it doesn't work" errors that I know of.

As has been noted by others in this thread, there are few real upsides for Stardock by prominently mentioning "bad" reviews - or even "moderately good" reviews. So quite often, we don't. Think about it: What could Stardock say about problems - valid or not - that are highlighted in such reviews? It comes down to either saying "yes, we think you are right" (which would imply that we should have fi

16x is "higher quality" (and so lower speed) than 2x. Dial all the numbers down. It's probably best to keep TnL on, if your hardware supports it then you shouldn't take too much of a hit.

EMH2006: I'm afraid the problem is that you live in Norway! The commas you use as decimal separators are getting stuck in Microsoft's scripting engine, which expects fully round decimal separators. We should have an update out for this as soon as possible - hopefully tomorrow. Many apologies to you and to our other loyal comma-using customers for your inconvenience!

Can you check the following things in the registry (using start/run/regedit)? * In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.Net\GalCiv2, the values Path and EXE must exist * In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar, the value Version must exist, and should be a value similar to 1.50.057 (specifically, it cannot be a value less than 1.5) If so

You use the "Archive and restore" functionality built into Stardock Central. Check it out in the help, but in short, right-click on the component you want to copy across and then select to archive it. Archives tend to be stored in Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP - you can copy them to the other machine along with a Stardock Central installer, install Stardock Central, and then restore the archives.

Vista is not as bad as people make it out to be. There are significant improvements to the underlying system there. It is not the ultimate solution to everyone's problems, though, and will not make things better overnight. Driver support is likely to be an issue until at least Q3 2007, and perhaps forever for older systems. It does use more memory, although a USB stick can help a lot with swapping costs. There is little reason for most gamers to upgrade their systems unless the
