The political system described by FuzzyMatrix makes me think somewhat of the Honor Harrington books by David Weber and the political system in there. The rulers supports a certain party thus when they have control of the senate it works smoothly. When the opposition has control it doesn't work as smoothly, so the opposition's goals benefit a little and the ruler's party goal's gain a little benefit. I would want more then just planet construction on or off. More like don't tell me if Type X ship gets built but tell me if Type Y ships. Don't tell me when buildings are constructed but tell me if some form of Terriforming is completed. That is the type of control I want over the reporting given to me.

I would say that no, the AutoLaunch option doesn't become obsolete. In GalCiv I, I only used the Rally points for Constructors, otherwise I always manually set destinations or orders after the AutoLaunch. This is because that for most craft the destination whould change between each build so there was little point in have Rally Points. Something that would be more useful to me would be the ability for ships to have orders automaticly set upon build complet
