Well, not all games are for all people. I took a gamble on it and bought it, but so far it's just not for me. It may be different than the majority of RTS games out there, but it's still an RTS at its heart. I have no doubt that it'll be a great success, and I wish them all the best, but I'm returning to the pleasure that is GalCiv2:TA. When's the next beta? ;)

Add me to the list of people not wanting to see the GalCiv series incorporate any gameplay elements from Sins. Keep turn-based games turn-based! That applies to tactical battles too!
My only request is if they could work out some kindof TOTAL WAR tactical type gameplay for the battles.
They've already said that there will be tactical battles, though turn-based ones, not real-time ones. That's much preferable in my opinion anyway.
If there isn't yet, there will be when we finish ours (next year?)
You guys need to announce it! Come on, you know you want to! We demand a screenshot or two! And some tidbits about features! Something, anything! *begins picketing the forums until his demands are met*
Under such a situation selling the company while retaining all operational responsibility is like having your cake and eating it too.
The problem is, that situation never seems to materialize. Any larger company which bought Stardock would naturally be filled with suits, and suits will inevitably start meddling in the process. They'll start looking for ways to "improve" things - after all, if a suit can't find a way to improve something, how can he justify his job?<br/

If Stardock were bought out you wouldn't want to play GalCiv2 anymore. It would suddenly be crippled with DRM, you couldn't install it on more than one computer at a time, and it would be loaded with in-game advertising. Just imagine, the Drengin leader pounding down a can of Mountain Dew every time he comes up on your viewscreen! And you would no longer build farms on your planets, you'd build Applebee's! Entertainment Centers would become Chuck E. Cheeses! (Drengin looooove
I personally would be fine with a slightly more aggressive ai in which diplomatic relations were a function not just of relative strengths between two ais, but based on the strength of a player versus the entire field. Players with a high proportion of planets should suffer increased diplomatic penalties across the board, and players which fight the big dog should recieve diplomatic bonuses
This is where I have hopes that the AI revamp will add a little more character and

Yeah, I'd also like to see a larger penalty for breaking an alliance. Perhaps a massive Morale hit to your population which takes a long time to wear off? Or perhaps make it a permanent Morale hit, to represent that citizens have woken up to the fact that they're being led by a jerk? ;) You could also rationalize reductions in Loyalty and Diplomacy, and to a lesser degree Economy, Production and Research (citizens are less motivated after realizing their leader is an arse ;) ). <b

I'm intrigued by Brad's comment that the AI improvements are not just intended to make the game harder (by making the AI play smarter) but also to make the game more fun. Having an AI that responds more specifically to what's going on in the game would be very cool, as would having an AI that injects more of its particular race's personality into its dealings.

Brad continues to slip in little bits about their fantasy 4X game in surprising places. On joeuser, he posted an article about Sins going gold, which included a bunch of screenshots. Among the screenshots was a photo labeled 'Stardock's "wall of synergy" covered with concept art for next major 4X game...'
Its all a matter of what you want to define evolution as. If you mean evolution by means of natural selection, like what Darwin was meaning, then yes, in a way as he described it, we have stop evolving. IE. We don't "weed" out through death, the handicap and infirm.
No, it's virtually impossible for us to stop evolving genetically. People are still being removed from the gene pool, if not by disease and defect then by their actions, and more importantly the new people th

Woo! I actually won my first game of TA on Tough last night, playing as the Thalans. I can't wait to see what they're like when they're complete. It's funny, everyone says the Thalans play so much differently than the other races. I've been away from GC2 for so long that I have no idea how to play "normal" races, and I've found the Thalans to be the easiest for me to wrap my head around. I guess sometimes ignorance is the best policy. ;)
Can you check in the foreign policy screen and confirm that they're at the right intelligence level, and didn't somehow get set to fool?
Ha, yeah, they're set at Fool for some reason. Wonder how that happened, since I've never moved that setting off Tough. Anyway, thanks for pointing out the problem. :)
Can you check in the foreign policy screen and confirm that they're at the right intelligence level, and didn't somehow get set to fool?
Sure, I'll check when I get home. I did start a new game last night, where I just decreased the galaxy size and increased the abundance of habitable planets, leaving everything else unchanged from the previous (screwy) game. In the new game, the AI has resumed its normal behaviour of kicking my butt. ;)
I was going

Hmm, it could be that they're just not building economic buildings, yeah. I wasn't sure which was the cause and which was the effect - whether they had no economy because they hadn't researched the techs, or they weren't investing in research because they had no cash. Now that I think about it though, at least a few of them should have econ buildings right off the bat that they could build without researching. That doesn't seem to have happened though. Unlike your experiences, where

Has anyone else seen this? On Tough setting, 9 opponents, Gigantic galaxy... My last couple games, despite not having much clue what I'm doing, I've noticed my economy was skyrocketing ahead of all the AI civs. It's also 150 turns into the game, and I'm the only one with any military rating whatsoever. Clicking through the graphs, I noticed that all AI civs had miniscule and flat Research curves. After increasing my espionage against them, I found that they were all spe

Not sure where to post this, so I'll stick it here. A search didn't find this discussed anywhere, but apologies if it has been and I missed it. What would be really nice (and I do mean really, really, really nice) for those of us who are colourblind is to allow the lines for a particular Civ to be toggled on and off in the Timeline graph by clicking on the civ in the legend. Yes, I know I can edit the race colours to try to find something that works for me, but frankly speakin

Hmm, I may have just found my race. It sounds like Thalans generally operate with fewer (but higher quality) ships/planets/structures. As someone who hates managing large numbers of things, that may be just what I need. :)

To put it bluntly, games of this sort (4X TBS) are exceedingly rare these days. GalCiv2/TotA is the only option on the horizon for me to play, so I want it to be as good as it can be. It's not like I can say "Nah, ship it now, I'm sure some of the 4X TBS games coming out next month will pick up the slack where this one falls short." This isn't the RTS or FPS genre we're talking about here. When one realizes that the next potential 4X TBS game from whatever developer may be a year or
I am dying to talk about the fantasy strategy game,
And we're dying to hear about it, so talk! :) I have a feeling you're deliberately holding off on the official announcement until TotA is released, so the announcement doesn't steal the spotlight from the expansion pack. Oh well, I'll live... I think... The little info you've dropped on the Quarter To Three forums over the past year has managed to increase

Well, I've followed both companies/games for a while, own both games, and taken part in both forums. I can say that CA and SD are polar opposites with respect to message boards and dissemination of information in general. While StarDock is all over these forums answering questions, responding to suggestions, etc., CA takes a very aloof approach. The simplest questions ("Is this feature going to be included in M2TW?") go unanswered/ignored for (literally) months. The link above is to

I did try this last night around 11:30PM EST but either no one was there I tried it out yesterday too, and left myself logged on for a bit. I came back and noticed you had appeared and left. There was just no chatting going on when you logged on.
