The AI in beta 2 will still be very primitive.

For those of you in the beta, you're going to be pleasantly surprised (we hope) with beta 2 which is due out right after we get back from E3. It has an entirely new user interface with a lot more usability integrated in. We also are starting to flesh out the AI so that it'll be a more playable game. Most of the main features of the game won't show up until the end of summer (star bases, debris, fleet battles, enhanced graphics, etc.) but beta 2 should hopefully show t
Like the way Galactic Civilizations II's UI looks so far? Get ready for a big change. Beta 2 will have the same quality of graphics but the user interface is being heavily re-designed to ensure players have more access to information and functions no matter what screen they're on. Stardock is making use of the recently released DesktopX 3 technology that allows for much easier user int
Gamespy's Allen Rausch has a hands on preview of Galactic Civilizations II up. Allen reviewed Galactic Civilizations I for Gamespy, so he is quite familiar with the game (it received a 4 out of 5 star review then). His conclusion: "If the Stardock team were just to drop those parts of the first game into the improved elements we've seen in this beta, the sequel would already be much better than the original. Make any improvements at all (and Stardock says they're working hard on t
No, the precursors are not a playable civ.
Thanks for the kind words!
Click on this to make it larger. Look closely at the moons and planets. You can control the ambient light in the settings. Turn down ambient light and the only light on the planets comes from the stars. If the stars were closer, you would have conflicting sources of light. Originally the ships were mor
Nope, the stars are light sources. We really are reasonably sophisticated..
OS2wiz: You should be reading this first: https://www.galciv2.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=274&AID=69795 We know that the game crashes from many feature implementation bugs. What I was referring to was that the engine itself is quite stable. If you were thinking that Beta 1 was going to be some sort of "nearly done game but with a few glitches" then I am sorry to disappoint. Beta 1 is
tdhoufek: Unless you send us specific hardware info, we won't necessarily be able to know why it's crashing. GalCiv II is a totally different engine than GalCiv I.
You can go into Stardock Central and type in the serial # that you received for the game that you should have in your email. Otherwise, contact [email protected] and let him know exactly what you've done so far.
I have it running on my ThinkPad X40 laptop which has Intel integrated video. No problems so far. But i will say that on older intel video chipsets the game won't work nor will it ever work on those.
So the beta has gone out and we're starting to get some coverage. It's hard to believe we have almost a full year left of work on this. The main engine is done so we have plenty of time to fill in all kinds of content and detail in here. The stability what somewhat better than I had feared/anticipated. But there's plenty of issues to resolve between now and Beta 1B which is due out at the end of next week. That will be the last public build of Beta 1. Beta 2

Pretty darn impressive though that someone managed to win!
It should email you a link to get the beta. But you can also go and download the latest Stardock Central ( www.sdcentral.net ) and it should show up there in the games area assuming that you used your same email addesss when you ordered as you do for your account here (otherwise you'll just need to wait for the email send to you with the serial info.
Over at Penny-Arcade Tycho mentioned he's wondering what people are thinking of the first beta of Galactic Civilizations II. So our question is to you - what do you think? Overall. Obviously we have a long way to go and most of the game isn't there but, do you like what you see so far?
Check out the interview over at CG Online that gives some details on what's coming up with Galactic Civilizations and beyond.
I get white blocks firing when I have battles too.
We need to know your hardware setup.
Players design their own ships.
This is already in there now. You can upgrade tiles with better improvements as the technology progresses. You will also eventually have the ability to clear a tile.

This is good to know.
Yea, that event isn't implemented yet.
