what a waste of technology

Perhaps we can get apolyton.net out of the Sony DRM dark ages and get DOWNLOADABLE AUDIO for the interviews. For craps sake, who though this stupidity up? As a long time supporter of Stardock, it pains me each time I see this kind of short sighted ignorance. You think they ever heard of the portable MP3 player? Maybe they want to be sure almost noone listens......really disapointingly pathetic

You know, asking politely to the correct parties usually gets better results.

And having only a streaming version is actually fairly common on this thar innarnet.

Actually I agree with him. Streaming only is usually reserved to sites who are commercial heavy so that you are forced to watch commercials. But this isn't the case with audio. So it is kind of stupid.

Well despite the unadapted way of saying it... I have to say that in the end I didn't listen the interview because of that. Didn't work somehow

He might not have said it elloquantly, but he is 100% correct. Only offering streamed audio rather then downloadable mp3s is stupid. Its a surefire way to ensure 90% of people will NOT listen to what you have to say. A perfect example of how to shoot yourself in the foot.

Unadapted? Abrupt and with political correctness on indefinet hold yes. When I see somthing that out of touch Im going to point and call it out, I think its stupid and I think the person responsible for the decision made a big mistake not considering the huge benefit of having the files easily downloadable would bring over the cumbersome ineffective streaming used.....I mean, if I want to I could stream it into an mp3/wav or any other file format I want. So what is accomplished by making it a stream?

End result

Unhappy customers, less likelyhood to 'bother' with content linking back to the site in the future, and a lot less peope will hear the content.

Funny thing is, streaming audio, and audio smothered in DRM seems to be working just fine for a majority of consumers out there. Not sure if it was really a "mistake" or a stupid decision as opposed to a move to try and keep other sites from editing the audio and reposting it as their own "exclusive" (yes, content theft does happen between fansites).

In the end, those inconvenienced by streaming audio tend to be in the minority. If those hating the method were anywhere near a majority, then streaming would have been done away with ages ago.

Personally, I had no issues with the streaming audio. It's not like you're going to be listening to it over and over, and it's split into multiple segments, not some huge two-hour file.

I suppose youve never heard of Podcasting, 20,000 podcasts, and they went from obscurity to prominence in little more than a year because it allowed you to take content with you and listen to it as you want....and theres that silly thing the ipod video, which has millions of people watching video when and where they want. Streaming has its place, but this is not it. Streaming is for time sensative, or dynamic content.

But the thing is, just because podcasting is popular, doesn't mean that streaming is a dead, horrid technology. I love downloadable content myself, but I'm not really bothered by streaming all that much. One form being popular doesn't spell the demise of an alternative.
