Obsolete ship improvements?

Sorry if this has been asked before

I'm hoping this is just a known beta issue, but it's kind of annoying that all the old outdated armor and weapons & stuff stays on the ship designer. I mean, why would you put a big weak expensive laser on a ship when a smaller, better & cheaper one is available? It's just clutter.

I totally agree with this. Its really annoying to have all the old gear still in the list. Maybe if you get, say Laser IV, then Laser I to Laser III should not show up anymore.

Well, one must be very cautious since sometimes you may want the "obsolete" version: on small hull, the mass driver IV has a cost of 120 for a damage of 4 while the mass driver III has a cost of 30 for a damage of 2.

or some way to hide the obsoletes and un-hide just for that reason...

If the cost is different, I understand. But a lot of the "new" versions are exactly the same cost, just better or smaller.

Also, mass driver III and IV are a bad example, you get them at the same time, and IV is just a premium weapon.

I do understand why you're asking for this, and I'd like it too. I'm not sure if the devs can afford the time to do it. My guess is yes, though it may be more complicated than I think, depending on how their data model is. It would be easy to write as an SQL query, but that doesn't mean that it would be easy to do in C++ or whatever language they're working in.
