PowerUser.TV takes aim at Jack Thompson..

This week's PowerUser.TV spends a good chunk of the episode targeting self-proclaimed crusader against violent video games, Jack Thompson.  Thompson, an attorney, claimed he would donate $10,000 to charity if someone made a video game that allowed players to kill game designers. Needless to say, the poweruser.tv team was not amused.

on the upside... the really, REALLY small upside, Jack Thompson kinda resembles a sour, grey, and strait-faced version of Jon Stewart attacking corrupt neocons, no?

There's some humor value somewhere in there by itself, i'm just not sure how.

Oh yeah, I can't think of anyone else on this water covered boulder we call home that is in more need of being commited. He's whacked, pure and simple. But to be fair, maybe he's convinced that in the wave of partisan Republican support following 9/11, he somehow has a receptive audience for his desperate pleas of videogame censorship.

First time listener, first time caller: Great pod cast! I really appreciated the counterpoints to Mr. Thompson. Great job! I'm now a subscriber to PoweruserTV. Keep up the great work!

Referencing Ms. Hatcher's balanced opinion, I think Jack Thompson's view is the "How would you like it if someone made a game with massive violence geared against you?" i.e. Postal has an abundance of violence geared toward police officers, Thompson's "game" projects massive violence against game developers. Viewed from that angle, it's more of a (tasteless) commentary.

Still, as Frogboy (I think) pointed out, it's really stereotyping the community at large. Not all game developers are making games with outright violence against certain groups. Thompson just seems hell-bent on a crusade for personal gain.
