This is most noticable on Gigantic galaxies and, when combined with the ultra small size of stars desplayed on the mini map, makes the entire mini map unusable. The zoom function seems to want to stay near the center of the galaxy. If the part of the galaxy is near an edge, you can't use zoom to get enough detail to tell what is there.
