Beta 3 - Day 1 assessment

Seems to be stable for the most part. However, it does crash if you alt-tab at any time.

Love the new tech screen, can't wait to see all the techs come into play. Hoping there are more techs we haven't seen however as some branches seem incomplete.

Many races still think I'm human, even though I'm not.

Battle graphics are well done, but cause system slow down. (Athlon64 3400+ w/ GF FX 5950 and 1GB of RAM) Needs some optimization work.

None of the ships we are supposed to gain with new technologies seem to show up. I just ended up custom building a bunch as a result, but would be good to have those ships available.

Custom built ship parts still seem out of scale. I was watching the AI with ships that had 2/1/1 in weapons and 1/1/1 in armor for a medium ship. Yet I could barely fit 0/0/2 and 0/0/1 on a similar sized hull. Perhaps they had significantly more miniaturization, but that seems unlikely.

Lack of diplomacy between the human and AI makes the game reaaaaally hard. Perhaps you should consider this as a possible feature for advanced players? Seriously.

Starbases do not get upgraded properly when it comes to defenses. I placed 2 defensive installations on one of my bases, and 1 on another. Neither had any defense ratings increased (i.e. they were still shown as 0/0/0), though when details were shown, it displayed +17 defense. The first ship to attack the base destroyed it instantly without taking damage.

Game stopped moving when during a battle I clicked on my ship to see how it was faring. I guess the AI didn't like that. It never became my turn, and the turn button never showed back up. Perhaps it was due to my ship being destroyed? Sorry, I don't have a save game either

Realized I should elaborate on my system specs:
Athlon64 3400+
GF FX 5950
1GB RAM
SB Live 5.1
Pleanty of HD space
Running Win XP Pro SP 2

All drivers up to date as of may '05

Oh, and the alt-tab issue was not specifically alt-tab. I hit the windows key to get to the desktop. It didn't crash till re-entry into the game.

Good! There is no point in having a bunch of pre-fab ship designs when you can just build them yourself. I think the Tech descriptions just need to be updated (that is, remove comments like New Ships: Star Fighter)

I think that when that happens, the tech is only one of multiple components required for the ship type to become available, and not all of the canned ship classes may have the correct requirements yet.

Diplomacy is coming it just isn't finished yet. Same goes for the tech tree, it's not quite finished.
