I was going to reply to this thread but I realized I'm mostly posting for reasons tangential to that thread so I made this one instead, but it still kind of puts where I'm coming from in perspective.
Background: I only recently got back into Stardock's Games since re-purchasing SOASER on GOG.com. I was sad to see Impulse go, but in some ways GOG.com with their Galaxy client is even better than Impulse was; especially since they have 100% DRM free releases. GOO was the best DRM compromise anyone could ask for but gog.com is uncompromising (granted the whole industry has shifted pretty dramatically since the early days of Impulse, so there is the matter of timing). I begrudgingly use Steam for the same reason I resent it: it is completely mandatory for some games even when those games are distributed via disc. Even Origin took several years before they realized most people will just deal with the mandatory B.S. instead of boycotting their favorite series (Mass Effect 3 was the first SP game to require it, but only if you installed any DLC so it could "license check" it via Origin even if it was free). And while I was upset at the sale and demise of Impulse I totally understood and forgave Stardock for going back into the business of making games.
That being said, I'm still somewhat upset at the whole situation because like many people I didn't manage to play my entire library of games on Impulse and have not done so on Steam either, and there were some casualties in the eventual sale and discontinuation of Impulse. I was able to obtain copies for most of my library on other platforms, but the following games I cannot seem to find/play:
80 Days (frogwares, not the new game with the same name)
A Farewell to Dragons
Atomic City Adventures
Cryostasis
Fort Zombie (Plenty of similar games now though)
Lionheart King's Crusade
Planet Alcatraz
JC's Avatar (okay I did beat this one but its still unavailable for nostalgia replays)
Star Prospector
Scrapland
Stormrise
Trash (Not a big loss here, including it for completeness)
Any help from the community locating and reviving these games would be doing me (and the community) a favor. And I encourage people to post any games they once had but can access no longer and I can add it to the list. I actually have an install of the bolded games on my HDD but the first one (ACA) won't activate with Impulse::Reactor and the second (SP) seems to be corrupt or something because the game crashes on level load (probably due to OS upgrade to Win10).
