Not doing so well as Drengin

I needed money so I thought I'd sell a planet and some corvette minions to raise cash. I got a fairly decent deal one time. I think it was my Arcean teamate who gave me about 3500 bc and 15000 influence points for Kona and 15 corvettes. The corvettes alone would cost 27000 so the deal made sense to me and the ships were less than a turn from the planet I gave him. It happened to have 5 billion people too.

Things went wrong awhile later and I reloaded and I couldn't get a deal anywhere near this deal. I tried the same offer with the Arcean and several others and about the most anyone would give me for all that stuff was 33 billion credits and one influence point. I haven't been able to figure out why there was such a huge difference in the offers because I didn't lose diplomatic ability or anything.

Playing as Drengin has been hard. I have no money. By the time I researched that thing that gets you the merchant symposium with the 50% earnings bonus, I can't afford anything. Maybe its because I'm so evil. I always check the evil box for the big bonus on the random event thing. I tried turning corvettes into constructors and better fighters but that proved to be expensive and no one wants to give me money for planets or ships. If I choose good options will people give me better deals? I leveled up my diplomacy a little but I'm Drengin and I don't have uber research skills. I thought I had to focus on improving weaponry and fighting and engines.

I also thought that my many successes in battle would perhaps get me better deals because beings would look at me as this god-like creature, but that didn't work either. I whipped the terrans in a dozen battles and no one gives a whit, especially my ally who always greets me warmly. He won't hardly give me anything. I've given him gifts thinking that we're in this together. It makes no difference.

I think the game is made for the Terrans and Alterians.

hello, the dreguin can be good... i prefer the altarians or terrans humans,, and torians, ,but u can with with dreguin , if u know how to play , i never like them,, also the krin cosulate and the korx are very powerfull

go and play with others, ,the dreguin and the korath are evil races in the game and we must fight them,, heeh

I've tried the end of my game as Drengin several times now and I think I need to focus on making money in the beginning. That's what has been holding me back. I have lots of buildings I've researched but I can't afford them and so I don't make money and can't build enough fleets. Let me know if I've got it all wrong. I also regret not having a production planet. Seems I've wasted my production bonuses. I just never played that way with the terrans and altarians.

Drengin are the strongest faction for a warfighting game, because of their super-ability. You don't need to research weapons or hulls etc to wage war, so early on when the AIs are still in the colonial rush you can simply use your dominator corvettes and shoot all his ships or bases down, severely slowing all their efforts down.

The amount of corvettes you gain is based on your military might. As you continously declare war you'll gain more & more. Don't be hesitant to accept peace for money & planets in exchange, then re-declare war. You can repeat this 3 times with every faction.

Making money with Drengins is easy because they have the Black Market improvements which is one of the very best initial filler building ingame, because it is maint-free. On a new planet rushbuy starport, 1-2 slave facs, fill rest with black markets. Whenever your economy allows it overbuild some markets with labs or facs.

Try not to use Arenas as they are too expensive, perhaps only on moral bonus tiles.

In the end, you will overbuild all markets with better structures, but once a positive economy has been established these markets are the best way to go.

You could also pick neutral alignment which helps the economy a lot (moral & interest rate bonuses). OFC you pick the evil choices, just make sure you don't have money on the turn you finish researching Xeno Ethics - thus, the game will charge you only -10bcs for 250 turns.

Remember that the advanced forms of government yield very substantial economic bonuses. If you're playing the Community or 2.20 tree, then the higher Administration levels have the same economic effect as Republic/Democracy/Federation of the other racial trees.

Also remember that you can take a big Economic bonus as an initial Ability.

hi,,,, u need to invest in market centers, research something that gives u money.....

i dont play with the dreguin so i dont know how its finances work, i dont think they are good in finances..

problem is the AI, and esp. AIP7 which runs Yor/Korath doesn't exactly aim out for cultural techs (even when they have much less choices in that regard!). so what they're left with is having StarRep for half of their games time, so if we average these bonuses against time, that makes +5 econ +5 diplo against -30 diplomacy at startup. for the AI it's clearly a nerf.

and that was not applied because someone found evil races to be too strong (esp. since the evil weapons have been nerfed considerably - the old Psionic Beam was perhaps the strongest incentive to simply go evil despite of paying for it if aimed for an early military conquest win or a Great Galactic Swindle) but because "it made thematical sense so evil should be bad at diplomacy"...

I agree about the Evil weapons. IIRC the ONLY benefit to 2.20 Psionic Missile is that it's a little cheaper. I really liked the old weapons.

Anyone that thinks the vanilla evil races are too strong is a pussy.

Oh, a question. I see that the Korath Germ Warfare branch requires Impossible Tech. I gather that is only enabled with the Super Abilities? (Might be fun to play with germ-ridden Korath without SAs, which I generally don't like.)

Heck, even religious fanatics might use biowar...

Evil weapons currently advance you a tier in strength. Given that they are also cheap to research and hold a+5 weapons bonus, they still are reasonable even if you have no ongoing wars and plan to go for a much better weapon...

It's not a bad design, it's just that evil feels not threatening anymore. On that it should be noted that the Artificial Slave Center is also nerfed by -30%, and Yor & Korx don't have it anymore. Given how it works (it will multiply your total base mil production, which then gets multiplied by your other modifiers) this was perhaps the single most powerful improvement of the vanilla game....

Impossible Tech will cancel out a tech/improvement/design from your availability during the games setup. You may still be able to get to it by other means, ie trade, SA, racial design...

If you delete this line from tech GermWarfare Korath will be able to spore you even w/o SA.

If you don't want to have them access to the Spore Module you could either mark the module itself as Impossible Tech (in GC2Types.xml) or simply delete it or give them another SA. Or make tech SpreWeapons an Impossible Tech.

In some of the former cases you may wanna compensate them somehow...

Oh cool. I don't recall having been inside gc2types.xml before. What indexes the Flavor texts? I don't recall seeing most of them. ("Death Rock"?)

Geez, the evil guys research Artificial Slave Centers so rarely, and so late in the game when they do, I think it's pointless nerfing the improvement. I mean, if they can get that far with their lousy production techs, they deserve the boost. Yor shouldn't have it, though, it's kinda redundant for them. Korx? I could go either way.

for evil, there actually is a reason to stall it - in order to get more colonization events or other ethical events. depending on the game, some of these can be quite strong even for the AI (cash or soldiering...), but if I were good/neutral - I wouldn't wanna wait too long, since you don't gain much, and, in the case of good, usually loose some stuff. so it really depends on what & how fast you wanna play out a certain grand strategy...

also, neutral ethics is immensely helpful for the AI, since it's stuff he can automatically use, better moral means instantly higher tax revenue, which he can buy 25% more stuff with because of interest rates bonus, and instant terraform helps immensely getting production rolling instead of endlessly terraforming newly colonized planets.

on Yor; IMO it's the Mind Control Center which is moot for them - as they have really less ability to culture flip other planets. You see, the tactic to build a Culture Starbase right into a foreign system, then maxing it out to give way over +300% influence, and gain all the local planets intact within some time, was really best done using evil alignment. ASC gave a surplus of constructors, MCC decreased the timeframe to instant flips, and you didn't have to pay for the modules - which BTW were/are, the most expensive SB mods so far and that will save you literally thousand after thousands of bucks. But Yor can't do that, so for a player it's kinda pointless to build the MCC at all.

thanks, but i think GC 3 isnt that great, GC 2 is the ultimate game, great, the makers could even make it better, do again another version hehe

I play on meta verse for years and I dont have even 1 % of the galaxy map control

I usualy play with good races,, and with good etical,, i find it more cool..

I always fight evil enemies....

appears to be that the 2.2 version of the GC 2,, the recent update,,,,

the AI f the enemy is harder,,,

I can only win on normal level enemies,,,

before I could win on tough...

not now,,,,

how do you win on harder levels..??? they expand in the map very fast...

I got Galactic Civilizations II some time ago, but being turn-based it never really caught on with me, because I prefer to have direct control of my units so I can get the most out of the least. However, seeing Civilization V played recently convinced me to give it another try with much better results. I have made it through Siege to Achilles' Heel in the Dread Lords campaign. I have only played as the Terran Alliance so far, and the arbitrary requirements for the missile and railgun ships have me confused. I am very good at early game colonization, but actually fighting has me somewhat stumped, because the Battle Axe and later Dreadnaught seem to be the only things that really work, ideally upgraded. If I am lucky to get some, the Lucky Ranger is great, but the Precursor Ranger seems to be ridiculous.

hi man,,,, i play this game for years,,,, the bigger the ship the better,,,,

but some times u need small ships for defending the planets.. at the beggining...

and on enemies of equal level....

if u upgrade small ships they can be quicly built and good in straegic battle...

is all about strategy and patience on this game,,,

me too i hardly build small ships , i go directly to the medium size or bigger...

ranger is a good big ship.. but u need massive scale buiidng to produce one,,,

GC 2 is a great game,,,

I am still trying to figure out how do i get galaxy control on meta verse,,, for now is 0 %

i wonder how many games i have to play to get 1 % of galaxy control...

Don't get discouraged. Some of the Campaign scenarios are killers. Try a non-campaign game to get more experience.

I'm not sure what you mean by "arbitrary requirements". Explain. Do you mean the weapons techs required to produce them?

If you do venture away from the Beam Weapon branch of the tech tree (as you probably should), be sure that you adjust the Focus sliders in the Shipyard. These control how the auto-designer sets up its ships. Then learn how to design your own. You should be learning what techs the aliens use and researching your own to counter them.

I am not discouraged yet, since Siege was a particularly tough one, though with so many Dread Lords, Achilles' Heel looks like it is going to be even tougher.

Yes, since some use the Stinger II or Railgun II for example, at least according to the wiki. Focus sliders, aren't there default designs that use missiles and mass drivers? So there aren't any prebuilt missile or mass driver ships, despite what the wiki says?

Well, yeah, I think. If you look at the Templates you will see what the game considers to be the base designs. Everything beyond the base designs is produced either by the auto-designer or by you.

The existence of a base design doesn't mean that it is buildable. If a design requires, e.g. Railgun II and you don't have Railgun II tech, then you can't build it. Period.
