I think it will be a while, because the amount of changes is huge. However, I highly recommend to try the ASCII version out, it's hilarious, full of bugs, but hilarious. TOADY implemented a completely asynchronous conversation system which is currently quite broken, the characters chop each other limbs and comment it with chilled lines like: "What's happening, is this an attack?" You can come to a group of dwarves and stab one from behind, and listen the others say stuff like: "I have just heard that Ulo Blackmurdered has been struck down in Mountains of Lies." "Death... death all around." "It was inevitable."
I even saw a conversation log where the player asked a guard about rumors, the guard answered: "I have heard that the demon Brujo the Ashen Tooth is planning to assassinate our beloved king." Then the guard reavealed that he is in fact the demon Brujo, proceeded to tear off the monarch's head, and then said: "I have just heard that a demon has killed our king. I am a little angry."
More hilarious stuff:
- Necromancers terrified of their own undead, running away
- Bandits scared of themselves, climbing trees in an attempt to flee from themselves, then falling to their deaths
- Huge town brawls started for obscure reasons
Just do not attempt to talk to your gods, and do not block blows with a shield, that is known to crash the game. Among other things
