I was playing GC2 Twilight (non-campaign) and getting crashes right as the "Dark Lords are coming" event occurred, after several hours of play.  I thought that my install might be outdated, so I uninstalled the whole GC2 set (base game, Dark Avatar and Twilight).  Reinstall was through GameStop App, as instructed on StarDock's Impulse page.

Now, when Twilight starts, there is no text on the buttons for New Game, Continue, Load, etc., although the buttons work fine.  Further, when I hit the New Game button, the items on the left side of the configuration screen (galaxy size) have no explanatory text.  The right side is fine. 

This is only a problem in Twilight - Dark Avatar and the base game work fine and have all their text. Twilight used to work fine (except for the crashes late in the game), but now it's on the fritz.
