when playing go into the shipyard tab at the bottom of the screen.you then have a choice of premade basic hulls or a blank cube from which you can add extras (jewellery) to make your hulls.these range from tiny,small,medium,large,massive when you have researched the techs for it (practice makes perfect) 
As for a AAR its basically either what happened during one of your games or you could write a fictional story as some have done.One thing some people like to put screen shots in between paragraphs of text to eloborate on the story so if you do this I recommend using imageshack forum sized pics.to take a screenshot in game hold down crtl and press prt scr button once.
