Seeing as I can find no evidence of anything called that, I'm guessing you either made it up or it came from Game Infarcer.

I admit I'm about equally interested in Syndicate and XCom.

They're dead. 

And seeing Starbreezes history of interesting but not all that great games I have to wonder.

I was really excited when I first heard about a new Syndicate...then I too realized it will most likely be turned into a squad-based FPS instead of a remake of the original.  Why do these companies even bother paying royalties for the licenses if they're just going to make generic crap with them?  Movie license games I can understand somewhat as they're universally horrible games that would never stand on their own.  But why use the X-Com or Syndicate license and then make something that no former fans wanted to see?  It's like taking the Street Fighter license and then making a platformer with it.

But that's exactly what I don't get, why do they need to use a license to make a new FPS?  They could easily just have made a FPS called 'Alienshock' without using the X-Com license.  In fact, by using the license here they're just going to hurt their review scores as people view it as an X-Com game, not an original title.

It's not like X-Com and Syndicate had a unique plot or characters that they want to re-use, they were just great games that happened to be about aliens and evil corporate agents.  You don't need a license to make a FPS about shooting aliens.

This is a sad sad day for me.

Syndicate was a game I was thinking would be a great re-make. Really sad about games having different names and being the same game. I guess we could blame it on consoles but it is really about money and exploiting the games engine and the gamers that buy the games.

There was one game that was released back in 2004 which was awesome and could have easily been the new "X-Com". It had third person isometric view with destructable enviroments and everything. It was called "Silent Storm ". It is the best squad based tactical game I have played and I have played alot. X-Com , X-Com:TFtD, Fallout Tactics, and there are more but can't think of them. The only thing missing was the whole administration of bases that X-com had. Anyway there was another game made of the SS engine called Arm & Hammer or Hammer & Sickle or something but it blew. Than they took it and made HOMM:V with the engine which kinda sucks.

The absolute worst part is the game was made to be modded so fans could remake "X-com" but because of some screw up it never got reviewed in America and never got the respect it deserves.

I am patiently waiting for Elemental to fill my gaming gap right now but if they micro-managed all the fun out of it instead of making a MoM like game I won't be surprised. My one hope is the battle system will be done properly.

Anyway my rant is off now and I hope they don't screw the Syndicate license.

Sorry to revive a 2 weeks old thread, but for those of you looking for an X-Com remake/reboot/..., there are 2 good candidates in the running, still undergoing beta testing:

UFO: Alien Invasion (similar feel to X-Com but started from scratch, different enemies, weapons, etc.)

UFO: The Two Sides (very close to the original, except for some added weapons and rebalancing)

Both betas are open to the public so I can only recommend you to have a look

Back to Syndicate: actually it would probably be less expensive to develop a Syndicate-like game with third-person top-down view rather than an FPS where flashy graphics are expected. I'm curious to see how it will turn out but I don't have high hopes.

I'm with you.  I think people should let sleeping games lie.

That's not to say it can't be good, I'm just always for original content over more sequels.

Crusader has such a classic 'game' story; "They killed my friends, thats when I went Jihad on them!".

I love crusader.

I played Syndicate about a year ago for Nostalgia value, unfortunately all it did was satisfy the nostalgia, it really could use a facelift in gameplay.  I think I played it through a dos emulator just fine.

If I were to bet though, I would bet this is going to be a cover system 3rd person shooter ala Gears of War.
