Came back to DA again this week after a long go with X3 Reunion.
I started a few DA games as Terran with the Drengin on Godlike,,, other races on genious (so the Drengin don't loose to other AI race, which i hate, because their mine!) which did not go the way i wanted.... Drengin fleets being so powerful that defences are irrelevant and then all your left with is a mindless mutual distruction slugfest.
I would like defences to mean something, but that is never going to happen so i restarted a new game playing as Arcean! The perfect race where defences don't matter.... sucked in Drengin empire!!
Arcean are pretty hopeless for keeping up in technology, so i put allot into diplomacy which helped allot - although still not enough to get me on board with extreme colonisation. The Iconians whom were next door to me, flogged most of my extreme worlds, so i flogged them back with troop transports! meanwhile the Yor took advantage of Iconian weakness and started nicking worlds i just cleared out from under my nose..... which really pissed me off!!! Now i'm going to have to go to war with them now. If only troop transports weren't so bloody tough to build early game.... i'm seeing rediculous things like 38 turns to completion in some planets (not extreme worlds), nasty.
I have managed to lead in weapons technology which is very handy when playing as Arcean, however i foolishly did not take any luck ability, so my ships have to be more than 3 times the hitpoints of enemy ships for reliable victory (i'm using cargo hulls), which is tough early game, but i do anticipate it will not be an issue later on. If later game weapons make defence technology irrelevant then sucked in game because the side effect of that will be that bad luck looses its relevance as well!
