I guess it's a 50/50 chance whether all this activity in SoCal/Baja is either relieving the stress further north, or increasing it. But I sure would not want to be living in the Bay Area right now.
LA did not fare so well in 71. At least not if you were on an interstate during rush hour (I was in school thankfully).
I agree, I do not see how this is good news for San Fran as it was not the San Andreas, but another fault, and probably just added stress to the San Andreas.
The reason this was relatively mild, damage wise, is there really are no tall structures in that part of the state.
