Hello all,
I've been thinking for a few days now about it and I thought I'd share the idea here.
The most disrupting and confusing thing with the game (more precisely: the race-pictures) is that they don't evolve, while the species obviously do.
Example: Playing as a human, you stay as a human-looking buff from the beginning up to the "Technological Victory" (and beyond if that's no winning requirement). However, I think, after having become omniscent and immortal, I'd say our species wouldn't look much like we know it.
In fact, I'd even go as far as to say we would already change far earlier. My idea is as followed, just by a human example (as we all are erm... no, that doesn't match it... Ah: As humans are the average species):
Once mankind has managed to make colonisation andsoil enhancement, humans change to adat to their environment as well. For instance colonists who have settled on an Aquarian world would fevelope gills and webbed fingers, or a group of them whose colony is used as major research complex would get enhanced brains. Once mankind has managed to maximise all colonisation forms and Terraforming, the various sub-human species would become one human species again, with all the characteristics. Gills form the Aquarian breed, supersized brains from the researchers and all the other things (a secondary and probably even tertiary set of eyelids from the descendants of colonists of a desert/barren world).
Then, when found out about the Deeper Knowledge of the universe, mankind would evolve again, becoming semi non-corporeal. Means still heavily dependant on a vagely humanoid shaped body, yet having abandoned much of the lesser features that are useless now (eyes as they can see all around, fingernails, lungs, etc.). Then, around Near-Omniscence or Beyond Mortality, the next steps come, abandoning the humanoid body-form in favour of something simpler, purely energetic. And then, finally, after the Technological Victory, mankind (now probably Homo Sapiens Finalis) abandones every form of body, becoming simple blobs of light that can be everywhere (omnipresent), are all-understanding/knowing (omniscience) and immortal.
My general idea was to make the tech-trees a bit more tier-like to make such a thing happen.
Something lik:
Tier 1: "One" Human evolves into several near-human subspecies. Prerequirements: At least 3 off-world colonisation forms except the racial inherent completed halfly + Soil enhancement
Tier 2: Near-Human subspecies reuinite to Homo Sapies Invictus. Prerequirements: All off-world colonisation forms completed + Soil Enhancement, Habitat Improvement & Terraforming researched.
Etc.
Lacking both knowledge about how to make such deep-running alterations on the code as well as the time to do it, I thought I'd share the idea with those who are the Wizards of GalCiv.
